Chicken pox parties - nice or nasty?

I had it mildly when i was 1 or 2.

But obviously because it was mildly I got it again when I was 13! The nastiest spot to have the lumps was on the foreskin! Ahhhhhh it hurt! Do your kid a favor now and dont let it have it while they're having pubity.

got chicken pox at 31, was so bad was admitted and tested for meningitis. Off work 3 weeks, real bad septic scarring to face, chest and particularly shoulders and neck, not nice on a girl.Had laser afterwards.

Couple years later got flu, coupled with stress, resulted in hideous shingles that took 6 months to shift.

cant rate highly enough pox parties for kids.

best thing for kids....get them into nursery.

The amount of things going round ensures that by the time school starts, they can practically fight of anything bar the yearly cold.

My 4 yr old picked it up the pox at nursery.

I remember one of my cousins getting it when i was around age 6 so my parents took me and my brothers round to my aunties house to play for the day so we'd all get it over and done with at the same time. so i'm guessing its pretty standard thing for parents to do.

I had it in my thirties. Not a pleasant experience, but as everyone I worked with at the time had already had it I only took a couple of days off work.

I don't like the idea of deliberately exposing a child to any disease.

What if there's complications?

It just seems wrong - if it's going to happen let it happen naturally imo.

It's a bit of a medical thread this anyway, I'd hate to think that someone was to take their child to a chicken pox party on the basis of what is said in here.

Never heard of these before - but I guess it is definitely better to get them when they're younger than when they're older.

No medical threads. It might not seem like one to some but imagine if this thread inspires people to expose their children to it and it leads to a complication.
