I'm a massive, MASSIVE fan of Marzipan. Ever since my mum bought me a humpty dumpty shaped marzipan coated birthday cake when I was 6 years old, it's been a favourite of mine. :D Anyone else? I buy Ritter Sports marzipan blocks fairly regularly, only about £1.20 each, dark chocolate over marzipan. Delicious.

I was in Waitrose yesterday helping my mum with her shopping and I always wanted to see what the world famous Niederegger marzipan is really like, so I bought a bar exactly like in the link below. Guess what? It's absolutely no different. I am disappoint. Don't get me wrong, it tastes lovely, but I was expecting something extra special. Instead, it's identical in every way to Ritter Sport, (well to my palate anyway) only at twice the price. Ah well, I tried it now. I think the chocolate coating is a bit more delicate and snaps in the mouth a tad easier, but nothing in it really. So if you like chocolate covered marzipan like me, just buy Ritter Sport. It's all german produced anyway.

No, I can't stand the stuff. Trouble is, I LOVE wedding cake and I LOVE royal icing, but I can't stand the layer of marzipan, so I sit there carefully peeling it out before re-assembling the slice of cake without it :D

Massive plus one from me ... sorry

EDIT: even though he never made the Xmas pud the bar steward .... :D

Sacrilege!

Love marzipan, so unique and flavorsome, almondy goodnes under that white sheath of deception... MMmmmmmmmm love the stuff!

You knows it
