Make that 5 handsets! Also Samsung G800

LG Viewty, Nokia 6300, Sony Ericsson W910i, Nokia N95. I really don't know much about phones and rarely use mine so could use some help in deciding between these?

I have W810i (I think) so was thinking of going back to Nokia just for a change and heard the N95 is really feature-packed - I don't really know what features I could use, the good camera? but also heard it's buggy?

What do you want your phone to do?

Don't know... I guess call, text, take pictures, play music... I'm just reading about the N95 just now and the built-in GPS seems pretty cool, would be handy for a road trip and when I'm driving... I have a wireless network at home as well, can phones connect to that and surf the internet?

Only thing I wouldnt do would be play games probably.

I would like internet access on the phone but that's more of a tarriff thing than a handset question I guess and I probably wont be paying for it on my tarriff so its a moot point.

What else could I do on my phone? I like my gadgets so if its a good plaything I will enjoy that.

n95 has the most features; being os-based, you can add your own apps to it, etc, and theres loadsss of apps/games around for it..

however, if thats not your style, then you might want whatever gives the best camera results - in which case the g800 might be better (source?)

(For what it's worth, I love my N95 :))

Me too, although GPS on mine seems to be rubbish, maybe I haven't got the right settings or something, can't get anything anywhere

Had a play with a G800 in a shop a while ago, chunky is an understatement.

Out of the the phones listed in the OP, I think the N95 would fit the bill the most.

Viewty: Camera is rubbish and the touch screen can be annoying
6300: The most basic phone of the lot, but is great for what it is
W910i: Well built and pretty cool although a lot of people seem to have had problems with it crashing, system failure etc, and I don't think it has Wifi
N95: The build quality on the slider was questionable, I think the newer ones are fine now. I haven't had any bugs on mine except it randomly reboots every now and then (very rare though) Good phone though, as you say, you can do anything with it.

My cheapo GPS system is miles better than the N95-8GB that i have tbh, but the multimedia features of the N95 make a decent phone, battery life is surprisingly good too.My only real complaints are the GPS and the finish, it seems to scratch easy:(

6300 is great hard wearing and can take a few knocks.

Screen has a hard coating but scratches eventually if you keep putting it in a pocket with keys in, but the stainless steel case seems indestructable.

A few tips:

- Make sure you are running firmware v20. They really improved the GPS.
- Turn on AGPS. This uses the data connection to help the phone lock on
- Make sure you have the slider open - the receiver is under the keypad
- Line-of-sight to the sky will give you the best chance of getting a lock-on (indeed, I lock on much faster when it isn't cloudy)
- I find that Google Maps for Mobile 'locks' much more quickly. It seems happier to work with lower degrees of accuracy, often giving your position within fifty metres or so immediately and then narrowing it down as it acquires more satellites.

If you've got flat rate data, check out the S60 version of Google Maps - it's awesome.

With Google Maps and A-GPS turned on, it never takes more than 10 seconds to get a very accurate lock for me. Google Maps doesn't do turn-by-turn directions but it's still very handy. :)

I wouldn't swap my N95 8GB for any phone currently on the market. My only grumble is the lack of a QWERTY keyboard.

Youc an get fold out bluetooth keyboards for near £20 if its really essential

I've been tempted to buy a Bluetooth keyboard since my friend has one and it works really well. Still, it's not as convenient as the keyboard on my old E70. :)

I love my N95 8gb. Always some new cool app coming out for it plus it does everything you want!

Thanks for them :) So Google Maps > Nokia Maps? I don't need it for turn by turn navigation, but e.g. the other day I was a bit lost and didn't have an A-Z with me, this would have been very handy.

Google maps also goes online and find the nearest mobile transmitter and narrows down your location to nearest 500 metres, which is useful if you cannot get a GPS lock

The N95 music playing features are not great, mine hisses when it plays songs. Not noticable in most things but quieter songs are ruined by it.

It is not as good as my old k800 for music.

Otherwise its pretty good.
