BUY NOW!!

I don't need to tell you all about this memory as needless to say many of you have it and quite a few have managed 1000MHz+ with 4-4-4-12 timings from this memory, especially when used with the Intel mainboards. For this money they are a sensational buy and an offer that is only valid until next Thursday. :)

Price is going in the right direction and I am after some DDR2 but how risky is this ram, there are both good and bad posts about it.

Hi there

Most people tend to post about a purchase when they need assistance or something has gone wrong. Wheras when something just works its no so often people post to say I just bought such an item and it works fine.

We've sold silly numbers on this memory now, easily over 5000 kits and so it must be pretty damn good RAM as our RMA's are no higher than any other memory such as Corsair. :)

Thanks Gibbo,
Is it worth chancing the 10th Anniversary coming down or does it look like it will all be sold at the current price.

Hi there

Well were the only people to have it and its selling it and we can never replace the stock. So from a business sense why reduce it?

Hi.
i have had GeIL ram in the past in fact i am still using it .i have never had a problem with GeIL ram .to be honest i was going to buy some GeIL 2GB (2x1GB) PC6400C4 .but after reading some of the problems other people are having with it i held back .the thing that worries me is .why is this the only ram that is droping in price when all the other ram seams to be going up in price like the 10th Anniversary stuff .in fact i think that went up by about £50 in the space of a week .

The GeIL ram seams to be getting plugged a lot on here by OcUK and its always on (THIS WEEK ONLY ) and im now wondering Gibbo why this is .

:)

I suspect that someone spotted the excellent price on the PC6400 OcUK Value RAM and GeIL sales went through the floor. Make the price differential smaller and more people will go for the more expensive RAM. I really don't blame OcUK for putting up the price on the Anniversary stuff, but that doesn't mean I'll forgive them for it.

Last I checked the price was £193 on Crucial website which is no longer available whatsoever on their, then when OcUK bought the entire stock in the UK! OcUK sold it at the very same price for at least a week, the price has increased £18 since & held steady for 2 weeks roughly, hope they still have ample stock available, I'm tempted to wait till after chirstmas & buy some along with the IN9-Max.

the Geil stuff uses Elpida memory chips wich had to be programmed
to work corectly with a lot of boards (gigabyte)

micron memory in the other hand will always boot up at 5.5.5.15
at 1.8 volts auto, no matter whats programmed into SPD tables

thats why micron memory IC's are £30 to £50 more expensive than Geil's
Elpida IC's or OCZ Promos IC's wich had a lot of problems with booting up with 965 chipset boards (they had to be programmed in SPD tables to actual say it was 5.5.5.15 @ 1.8 volts)

The 975 chipset will always boot up ram @ 5.5.5.15 1.8 volts auto with any memory IC, but when it comes to overclocking your fsb above 355 thats were the Elpida & Promos crap out you wont be able to run 1.1.
sync with ram

so now your expensive memory becomes no use, as you increase fsb
above 355 on CPU your pc6400 ram will be running under its rated speed

doesnt happen with micron memory

great info James, glad I decided to ensure the memory I purchased used Micron D9 chips and steered clear of Giel :D

So are you saying the GeIL cannot actually run beyond 355FSB?

If so then explain how I myself got 1100MHz+ from a set at CAS4 and many other members are also running 1000MHz+ at CAS4? All RAM speeds taken using CPU-Z and Sisoft Sandra.

yes iam saying it wont run correctly on asus 975 chipset boards
Asus P5W64, Asus P5W DH Deluxe WiF,Asus P5WDG2-WS Professional
as ive tested 4gb of the stuff on the 3 boards, each of 3 motherboards produces the same results.

it will run ram at rated speed only upto 350fsb anything above
requires auto SPD settings when hitting above 355 fsb wich means poor
timings of 5.6.6.18 above 400 fsb

all the people who are hitting great speeds with this ram are on the
965 chipset boards, look for results with this ram on 975 chipset and you will
not find 1 person who can go above 360 fsb 1.1 with ram.

I've just ordered myself this RAM along with a DS3 mobo. Can anyone tell me what I need to do in the BIOS to get the best of this RAM? Step by step would be great, or is that cheeky!

I do think that there is something very odd about all this 'super' RAM with there being so many posts about it not working in this board or that board and it needing to be bodged into early gigabyte boards with 'cheap' sticks of RAM that know they can run at 1.8V.

At the risk of looking noobish - I'm also starting to get concerned about the stock advice to adjust the voltage up to [+0.3V] as how do we know the voltage isn't being correctly detected and set to 2.1V already? On my DS4 the latest BIOS is F6 and it just says [+x.xx V].

I've got 6 Core2Duo systems here folding 24/7 for 4 different teams and I'm almost almost exclusively running Patriot memory that OcUK were selling last year and it's hitting PC8500 speeds at 2.1V and very loose timings. The one exception to the Patriot closed shop is some PC6400 OcUK Value RAM. That boots up fine at 1.8V, it even runs PC6400 at 1.8V on my system and it does so at 4-4-4-12. I have no idea what chips Eilixir are (possibly Eilixir?) but for the cheapest RAM on OcUK at the moment, it looks like THE bargain on the website at the moment to me.

I've had Kingston and Crucial Value PC4300 and they all ran fine at PC6400 speeds on stock voltages with loose timings. GeIL did make some very good RAM. I'm not just so sure about this current batch though.
