Recently I've smoked a few cigars and I quite like the taste. Anyway, I know there must be better ones out there than usual rubbish, and I'm just wondering where to start. What do people recommend for a beginner and where should I buy from? I'm not looking to spend major dosh, but want something slightly more sophisticated than the 'behind the bar' Hamlets.

Romeo y Julietta, damn good cigars mate.
Nothing like sitting about, relaxing and just enjoying a smoke, something so insignificant but so enjoyable.

Just Invest in a decent cigar cutter (the cheap ones make the edges jagged making the smoke less enjoyable and don't last long) and matches (cedar is the way forward)

Cohiba's, Monte Christo and Romeo y juliette. All enjoyed at the Bodeguita del Medio in Prague alongside a cuban Mojito :) Top place, top cigars, top food and top drinks :D

Try cigarone.com as you can dodge the taxman and pay significantly less.

Bolivar Petit Coronas are my favourite smoke at the moment, though admittedly I havn't tried too many. Monte no.3s are nice also.

Cigarone are my current retailer of choice for Cigars, their service is excellent and discreet.

I really went off Cohibas after trying the Siglo II, left the rest in the humidor for 6 months, now they seem really spot on. My other favourite is the Montecristo No.2, a large man sized Cigar but the No.4 is probably easier to find.

Jose L.Piedra are my favourite after trying most of the selection on Simplycigars, Hoyo De Monterrey if I want something lighter.

although I only allow myself one about every month now, it's the only vice I have left, as you don't inhale the smoke there's very few health risks.

Are Cafe Creme cigars any good? I did look at the Romeo y Julietta but they seem a bit of a pricey leap.

Cafe Creme are the usual rubbish!! As a general rule of thumb, anything you can buy in your local paper shop/spar etc is mass produced machine rolled crap. For anything better, you need to be looking at hand made cigars from a reputable supplier; either a proper tobacconist with a walk in humidor or as specialist web supplier as molinari and martinweston have pointed out.

If you just want something to try and see if you really want to get into this (as you pointed out, it's a pricey leap) then try one of the beginners sampler packs on SimplyCigars, or (if you think you'll feel a bit self concious with a full Churchill in your hand) try these http://www.simplycigars.co.uk/romeo-julieta-petit-julietas-p-1582.html

I occasionally smoke cigars, but please don't try and pretend they aren't bad for you - they are. There are a LOT of cancers that can arise from cigar smoking.
