Some of the people on Union I used to play with a lot from guild... I've recently got back in touch with some of them!

Zak (Tank)
Kryogen (Controller I think?)
Zolt (Blaster)
Emba (Blaster)
Blacklight (Controller)
Hot Plate (Blaster I think)

I wish I could remember more names as there were so many great people on there.

There was a very prolific spines/regeneration scrapper I used to play with. I think his name was Baff or Biff or something like that. Had a cigar hanging out of his mouth I think.

I think I could go back and do a level 50 again now - enough time has past I could probably find it interesting again - I just found an old player list and I had more L50s than I thought and twice as many toons as I remembered having LOL. I'd miss my old main L50 defender though as it had aspects that are doable as a new character due to length of time, beta and "grandfathered" rewards.

If they revived it as it was then there'd be so much content it'd be difficult to get bored. I really wish they'd do an AC2 and bring it back.

They timed the shutdown awfully IMO as they could have cashed in off the back of the wave of superhero films that were coming out. :(

Dunno if it is true but I saw on IRC someone claiming to work for the parent company saying one of the execs had an absolute tantrum over the amount of money plowed into subsequent games that didn't do well claiming people were clinging to CoH and insisting on shutting it down to force people to buy the new games - if true spectacularly backfired as a good number of their player base swore off buying any future ncsoft titles over that move (and by all accounts CoH was still making money albeit not hugely - but future updates and the superhero genre coming back into fashion could have put new blood in it).

I heard a similar story, they expected a lot of the players to simply migrate into other NCSoft games. They really didn't get the community and love for the game. The game launched in Korea, called 'City of Hero' and absolutely bombed. Koreans love the grind and this game never really had a lot of it. That didn't help it in NCSoft's eyes as they've always had popular games in their Homeland. Quite why they weren't prepared to sell it off to another company I don't know. Apparently there were offers on the table including a management buyout and even Cryptic, the original creators said they'd have it back but for some reason they decided to shut it down. Apparently CoH2 was planned, although I'm unsure how far it got.

There is a post about COH2 on reddit somewhere - IIRC didn't get much beyond the planning stage due to the high overheads of the US studios and Wildstar not selling as well as they'd like making the publisher wary of spending money on it.

Think my favourite character was a Robotic/Dark Mastermind, think he was called Death Machine.
Had a great reanimated corpse through cybernetics kind of look to him. I remember the littlest henchmen were called somthing like Wired Soul A-04, Wired Soul B-37 and so on. The big robot was called Digital Wrath!

Wish I kept some screenshots :(

Yeah it's sad that there's no combat but it's still nice to go badge hunting and it's fun to reminisce with others. I've actually had some good laughs on there recently.

Hah I used to love this - I went out to buy WoW just after it launched in 2005 but it was sold out so I bought this instead. It was much more accessible than vanilla Wow and a better intro to MMOs (for me at least). I grouped up with some guildies to hit the big 50: just as I was about to ding I thought I'd try and do it in style by slamming into a large mob. Instantly died and dinged as I rezzed :\

Still got my City of Villains collectors edition :D

Only screenshot i have left of that game.
Was really very good fun.
Cant remember the class i was had a big "full auto" assault rifle and some other badly mismatched secondary class. :p
My mate played a regen spine scrapper and was almost unkillable, unless stunned.

Going to Dark Astoria for the first time... Both of us crapping ourselves :p

There are a bunch of projects on the go at the moment all hoping to recreate the magic. These seem to be the front-runners:

Umbrella site covering all projects and discussion: http://cohtitan.com

City of Titans: http://cityoftitans.com/ - Best funded so far. Beginning to look promising.
Valiance Online: https://valiance.shogn.net/ - Pre-Alpha testing has been going on already, obviously still a way off release.
Ship of Heroes: https://www.shipofheroes.com/ - Actually looking surprisingly good, although the Lore is a bit odd IMO.

A few others:
Atlas Park Revival: https://cohrevival.com/index.php? - Not sure how this is going
Heroes and Villains: http://www.heroes-and-villains.com/phpb/home.php - Not sure how this is going either.
Redside: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1405683158/redside/community - Don't know if this will get off the ground.

I encourage people to take a look at these and if you feel optimistic about any of them, consider donating. :)

Just looked at the cohtitan page and saw "Mid's Hero Designer". Man the hours I spent in that (and similar) apps...

What about the Respec Task Forces?
The early days when respecs weren't handed out because the month had a vowel in it's name. Especially on your first few attempts.
For me half of the challenge was finding a team to do them!

So what was the most disliked enemy type in game? Carnival? Malta?

Malta were a pain, mainly because of the Sappers that could drain a character of endurance meaning and toggles you were running dropped instantly and then you were pretty much toast.

I hated Carnies. Quite enjoyed fighting Malta in all honesty though.

I think I enjoyed Crey and Freak fighting above all else.
