Civ 5...A rant from a very dissatisfied customer

I dunno. There was a bit more wrong with it than that.

- Railroads were ridiculously overpowered
- Same for particular wonders
- Sea units were often largely pointless
- Air units were always utterly pointless

Yeah i used to love the way i could move my whole army anywhere in my empire in one turn due to railroads... Been playing Civ3 on my laptop... ah the memories.

I agree for the first two points, but not the second.

At some point if you want to send a large army overseas you need transporters, and they need protection which is where the AEGIS cruiser comes in. The battleship was pointless, as were subs (appart from carrying nukes).

The stealth bomber and fighters we also both very effective unless you we're fighting an enemy which was technologically equal. In which case they just got annihilated, but so did everything else.

Once a city has City Walls, SAM Missile Battery, SDI etc and is protected by Mech Inf and Stealth Fighter it’s practically impregnable.

There is something slightly off about this latest Civ that I can't quite put my finger on. I enjoyed my first play-through, but usually I can't wait to get stuck back in and play again, but this time round I didn't feel like it. Can't explain why, but it just feels like there is something missing. They have made some improvements like getting rid of unit stacks and the introduction of hexs, but it seems to be missing that magic ingredient.

I've also reverted to civ4 for the time being, but plan on getting my father the game also so we can lan play ^^ so sad.. but we used to hotseat a lot when i was younger back in civ1?

I must be the worst gamer in this thread, as so far im 0/2 against the computer. Thought i had the Romans on the run in the last game, but after our cease fire i took a couple of their captured cities and then they took most of my main ones. Time to start again and build a bigger army! :D

I was considering picking this up at the weekend, though it sounds like it might be worth waiting for a patch or 2 to pop up first?

Never actually played any Civ game before, just tried the demo to this one and found it fun, if a little limited. 100 turns is barely enough to do anything!

Your like me good sir! Never played Civ but really like the "c-o-n-c-e-p-t" so took a dig. Only thing i find annoying is finding a barbarian camp when your scouts are out. Playing on the Epic setting and i still think it's a little 'slow' in terms of over the course of 3000 years i'd of hoped to amass more than 3 archers, 1 horseman, 3 warriors and 2 spearmen. Still, it did the job knocking Oda Nobunaga and the Japanese out.

Aside from that, i dont get what everyone is moaning about :p

I started playing Gal Civ II this week, not sure how I missed it the first time around.
Can be downloaded fro stardock with all patches and expansions this week for special price of $8.95, so £6 or so.
Enjoying it, good game, even on stupid, the AI isn't so dumb.
Playing a massive first map as a learnign experience, so much depth to the game.

From my OP:

Why did you feel the need to come here post that? :p

Can you not handle more than one topic per game? ;)

I have been reading this forum for about 6 months now and i decided to sign up,one thing i have noticed in the few months that i have been reading various threads is that Evilsod is always moaning and forcing his opinion on people, always bitching like a woman,if thats his picture on steam then he looks like a women too,an ugly one come to that:D

If i was you i would just ignore him, cause he acts like a right knob 99% of the time.
