Civic Coupe VTi (1.6) - Info??

i have one mate and i love it!

the coupes EM1's are basically the same as the hatches ek4's specs wise and as they weigh about the same performance is the same as well!

Yes its the b16a2 engine with 158bhp and will do a quarter in 15.7 standard.

problems wise there aint much to look for, the only real thing would be to make sure the engine is working well, no smoke and make sure vtec kickes in as normal .

the b16 is just about bullet proof but it needs looking after regular oil changes are a must every 6k would not be excessive.
specs wise what would you like to know?

A mates got one, nice motor. Not the prettiest thing in the world but not the ugliest either, the only thing i'll say about it is it doesn't feel as fast as you'd expect with 160bhp on tap and it's a little spartan on gadgets for my liking.

Makes a nice noise too:

This is the car id love to get but as im currently learning to drive i dont think it would be a good idea for a first car :( . What insurance group are the coupes?.

Grp16 for the VTi I think. No chance for a first car without silly insurance, then its still probably not a good idea.

na you will struggle for a first car.

i have heard of people being 19 and having vti but they pay silly money for insurance £2500+

some people dont like the power delivery its more a style of driving and what your used to. personally i love screaming down country lanes and working the engine, but other people prefer the lazy ;) low down torque of a turbo

My mates just bought one, just wanted to see what the specs were.

He's biggin' himself up already... "XE Beater"

:)

I'm nearly 24 if that makes any difference?. I mainly like the looks of the car, do the lesser models look the same as the VTI?.

This might be a bit off topic but I've noticed that people say they "religiously" change their oil every 6k miles.....

In America it's every 3k miles....even says so in the manual. Is this just our consumer society picking our pockets? I always changed my own oil and filter on my b16 with Mobil 1 Synthetic every 3000 miles and by then it looked quite dirty. I hit 8400rpm daily but still.......

Anyway I had a 93 Coupe as my first real car that I owned which is basically identical since it had a b16a in it as well and the chassis are almost identical...and I loved it. Decent gas mileage as long as you don't speed (very short gears), and a peppy engine that responds quite well to mods. A bone stock b16 can take over 350bhp if you are boosting...and na can hit 230bhp without too much trouble, and even more if you're looking to do some work.

And even in 100% stock form the car is very nice to drive...not fast by any means but it's nimble, responsive, and has a great peppy little motor.

My first car was a Civic VTI, I was 22 though. Insurance was just over a grand.

Edit- sorry mine was the B18, not B16..

Run 1 is a better vid for illustrating VTEC:D

...and with a little bit of headwork....nearly 200 to the wheels on a completely stock bottom end :D this is what vtec should always sound like:

depends what the xe is in :) cavvy/calibra yup he is gonna slaughter em.

nova/corsa/tigra it will eat him alive as long as its in good fettle.

bear in mind that 150 bhp xe is going to be at least 15 years old and if it hasnt been freshened up its likely to be missing a few of those horses.

oh and TORQUE :)

Its in my Astra.

Running not many modifications apart from Shorter ratio gearbox and decat (4branch if you could but its standard one).

I'd take a stock XE over a stock 158bhp B16 any day of the week tbh. Loads of effortless torque as well as virtualy the same peak power.

...although when Gurusan says 'without too much trouble' he doesnt mean 'without too much cash' ;) Theres so many options for fettling and engine swaps though, its superb. B16, B18, B20, H22, K20, K24, boosted and NASP all different states of tune to suit all budgets, lol.

Very true. Unfortunately things are quite expensive in this country...in the states you can build a b16 close to 200whp with about 1000 USD in parts and a few hundred in tuning. N/a is expensive though...I spent about 1400-1500 piecing together a custom turbo kit and my goal was 300whp daily driven. However I sold my car and moved here for school before I got to put it on :(

The k-series are quite amazing though...those with EP3s should be modding the !$#*& out of them. There's a guy on a forum I moderate with a built k20 and he just got dynod at 320bhp.....this is N/A from 2.0 liters. :) Quite a lot of money went into it though.
