Civilisation 3 not working on vista

has anybody else had this problem. I got it on steam for my girlfriend as she likes this sort of 'create a world game but not like the sims as that's for ten year olds' genre. It's working on xp but she's got a new laptop with vista so and it fails to launch. Any advice?

You need to run it in XP compatibility mode.

I had a friend who had a similar problem. Turned out that Civ 3 doesn't work on Vista, and he managed to get a once-off refund from Steam. Not sure if this will work in this instance.

My suggestion would be to buy her the Civ 4 complete set - you can get it for a tenner now if you shop around (i.e. not on Steam).
