Cleaned out the EGR valve on the Mondeo today

I have a Mondeo mk3, 2.0 TDCi and today a couple of friends and I decided to clean out the EGR valve.

All I can say is yuk. I can't believe how much **** was in there.

It's also clear the the whole of the inlet manifold will need doing at some point because it's lagged to high hell.

It almost seems pointless putting the EGR back on when the rest of the inlet manifold is in such a nasty state but we ran out of time.

Should have taken photos but didn't think of it. I'll take snaps when I do the whole lot.

Anyone else done this?

Yeah it was filthy on my 2.2 - didn't do the whole inlet as like you I ran out of time and I then stopped driving it

Did you notice any difference in economy/performance?

I expect it won't make a lot of difference until the whole inlet is done but would be interesting to hear.

10 years ago on a 130pd. I'm amazing people don't do it as routine servicing

Was planning on doing mine today but got stuck doing something else instead. Will hopefully get round to it next weekend and will post some pics if I do.

Its should be a routine service i also think....

Its a part that delears dont clean and its a replacement part only.

Need to do mine on my Fiat 1.9 JTD lump. The emission light has come on a 62k and the fault code indicates this as the cause.

Done mine on the civic about 2 months ago and it was actually very clean at circa 80k - there was still some of that horrible gunk there but nothing like what I've seen on some other cars, can't see it having been done prior to me owning it going by the gaskets that came off
