Hi, just giving my bike a good old fettle and trying to get the chain clean and free of any gunk.

But my rear sprocket. How do I get this clean and the dark bits off?

Thanks.

You likely won't get it off, it's where the plating has started to pit. A wire brush would probably make it look better for a while, but you will remove even more of the plating so it will look terrible after a bit of moisture.

is clening of all the gunk of the chain's just personal looks thing?

i mean ive just changed my chain today has the o.e one did 25,000 before it went. i had scott oiler fitted but i never once cleaned the chain.
