so my k6 gixer 600 has been sitting around for a few months now and it needs a mot,on the last one i was told i might need new seals,so im thinking of doing this myself.
is it difficult?ive fitted new oil and air filters myself, would it be a giant leap in skill cleaning out my brakes?
cheers

Its Not a difficult job in itself, but one that needs to be done properly. Also if the seals are gone there will probably be some corrosion which can make it a bugger to get the brake pistons out .
My advise would as its the brakes get it done buy a garrage . You could always take the callipers of yourself so you dont have to leave your bike with them ,and save some money ..

But if you deside to have a go watch these vids its basiclly the same. Might help

It's not an overly difficult job. Make sure you have plenty of clean cloths/rags knocking about to stop brake fluid from ruining your paintwork.
Brake cleaner is good for removing all the exterior gunk prior to taking them apart.
If you can get some paraffin, all the better. Put some in a bowl and after dis-assembling your calipers, dunk them in this for a couple of hours and use an old toothbrush in all the piston recesses to remove all the crud.

When assembling again afterwards, just remember that the seals should only go in a certain way. Don't be tempted to use WD40 on them either, as this can make them swell slightly and cause problems later on.

Get yourself over to gixerjunkies, they have a how-to section on there and I think it gives you a step by step guide to doing it.
