Hi,

After ive been driving for a while or using the clutch a lot in town ect, all of a sudden it seems to drop down, and then when you bring it back up towards the 'bite' it only moves about an inch before the car moves. Could the clutch be on its way out or just somthing like a release bearing?

car a 2000 focus 1.6

My car did this, then not long after it wouldn't engage any gears. Then had to wait for it to cool down and drove it home without changing gear too much.

I would get it changed ASAP.

Maybes the self adjuster ratchet thingy. Lol yes that is the technical term. :p But yeah, perhaps when the car is getting hot and IF the clutch cable is routed around the manifold it may be causing problems?!

May just be the cable needs replacing also. :)

i don't think it has a cable all hydraulic on the focuseses.

the hydraulic system on them is a bit pants its recommended that on a clutch change you replace the slave cylinder and feed pipe.

the problem your having sounds like one of the cylinders is giving up. the release bearing is part of the slave cylinder and does require the box coming out to replace and if the box is comming out might as well bang a new clutch in there.

there are issues with bleeding older hydraulic clutches that can cause the master to flip its seal when bleeding in which case you will need one of them as well but it doesn't happen very often.
