Clutch Sticking

I have a 306 D Turbo S reg and the clutch has just started sticking. When pressed it doesn't come back up further than JUST above the biting point, sometimes this means that the car will rev because the clutch isn't fully engaged. I had a look and it seems as if the spring has broken on the clutch (metal bits are overlapping). Will this be the cause? How much am I looking at to get it fixed? Could it be anything else?

Thanks in advance :)

Well its either the spring on the pedal is dodgy (and it does look that way) or the clutch plate itself is sticking.

Try pushing the clutch down with your hand, and then pulling it back up again, its its nice and easy, then its probably just the spring on the pedal is nackered, if it offeres a bit of resistance then it may well be that one of the plates is sticking slightly.

This sometimes be the case, especially if the car has been left undriven for a longer period of time than would be normal.

Looking at the pictures, my guess is with the spring though.

the spring looks knackered to me - should be quite a cheap part from Peugeot :)

Yep looks like the spring coils have tangled up and its not acting like a spring, new spring should fix your problem £5 max.

Cheers for the replies :)

Am I likely to be able to get this part from somewhere like GSF? I had a look through the Haynes manual and it said there are no spare parts for the pedal assembly, although I'm not sure if this includes the spring? Surely I should be able to get a replacement spring rather than shelling out for a whole new pedal assembly!

Its best to give them a ring and ask. Although knowing Peugeot, they'll only be able to give you a whole assembly  While you're there, you may as well replace the clutch cable :)
