Hmm, silly Mrs Father Christmas has bought me a CM590 as per instructions but has taken it upon herself to order it with a pre-installed CM eXtreme 500W PSU. :(
Now, I was going to be ordering a new PSU anyways, but I would like to have chosen it myself.
Basically, is it a piece of rubbish that needs binning or should I hang on to it until next upgrade in a year or two?
Two 12V rails with 18A on each seems more than enough for my machine but I'm more worried about it's stability.

Any advice is appreciated. :D

I think thats a low price 'generic' psu.My own thought would be to sell the PSU at auction, and put the money towards a corsair or similar.

Hmm, I've seen a few negative comments about it squealing under load on an overclocked system (which mine is).
I suppose I could try it, crank it up and see how it goes but I was more worried ablout the long term stability.
Is the general concensus crap then?

Why, oh why do women feel the need for independant thought when it comes to technology?

You know, i've never actually heard a bad word said against Coolermaster's PSU range. Obviously they're not the best, but i'd call them reliable.

Maybe I don't have a clue! Personally I wouldn't run good hardware on a cheap psu,but if the OP wants to try it and post back results then great,we can all buy a cheapo psu instead of an expensive corsair if it makes no difference.

Uther, no need to get so defensive man.
I'm simply asking if this is a good/safe enough PSU to run my equipment (see sig).
Obviously I would have bought a different one and spent a few more quid, but I want to know if this will suffice as I unwittingly already own it.
I could ask you if my 4870 is OK and you will tell me that a 5xxx is better but that's not what I'm after mate.

Also, before you get so arsy and speculate about me trying it and posting results, I will state that I've been banging PC's together for over 15 years (probably before you were born) and never had one go pop because of the PSU yet. Maybe you just do it wrong!

I'm after help guys, not people speccing me the best that money can buy. Just need to know if it's safe.

Cheers.

Sorry Slug didn't mean to sound arsy! Just got annoyed at one of the comments here!
The only bad thing I can see about them on the net is that some seem to find them 'noisy'!

Yep, I noticed that too Uther.
But seeing as it's landed on my doorstep already, I suppose I'll try it.
Just wanting to check that it isn't well known for frazzling PC's really.
Cheers anyway chaps.
