COD Black Ops looks pretty good on PC

Treyarch really screwed up on this game :S I can't think of an FPS game since C&C Renegade that was broken this badly on release... and Renegade was the first time that developer had tried their hand at an FPS game IIRC.

I just spent an entire map having to use my pistol as after 2 minutes into the game my main gun (commando) would "jam" every time I respawned after 1-2 shots and not "unjam" until I was killed. (Didn't have any other classes configured that were useful for the gametype).

I hit lvl 50 sometime last week and I have to admit that I haven't touched the game since. I don't really have any urge to prestige as I did with MW2. I guess I've just lost interest. I was never any good anyway!

I really dislike being knifed. My knifing reactions are so bad, it's always the last thing I'll do, I tend to just shoot, of course the enemy will jump a metre or so and knife me. :(

The knife attack i this game is retarded, i dunno if its supposed to be a lunge or what but its like they glitch and all of a sudden have knifed you before you know wtf has even happened. Single hit instakill melee's can **** right off as far as im concerned, getting fed up of games jumping on this sad bandwagon.

My knifing reaction was crap as well untill i found thats how i die most of the time with other players knifing me first :(

So i swapped out lean for knife and sprint Q and E i never used lean anyways lol

Now one my fingers always on Q just incase :)

I kinda have an instinct now for places where I'm likely to be knifed and half cover the key incase (or just avoid the area).

They should add a body armor perk that needs 2 knife hits to kill :D

Id love to know why games all of a sudden started to turn melee attacks into instakills. It was far more satisfying in cod1 to buttsmack someone to death with a few hits. Now its so incredibly cheap that its just frustrating. Why is it that they can literally run through shots and knife you? It makes no sense.

I don't remember it being so prominent in MW1.

When you do it, or someone knifes you it'll almost auto aim. In most cases you don't even need to be looking at the person, as long as you are in range you will kill them.

I kinda miss the games where you would hit people with the butt of the gun, which wouldn't instantly kill you.

Or just take a leaf out of Battlefield's book, giving the knife a wind-up time before the strike so it retains its role as a stealth and close quarters weapon, but loses its 'reaction button' status among players who just mash it down when they are suprised by enemies. Having to wait a second or two for the 'hit' would make it more a legitimate choice than it is now, and would also reduce the staggering fact that it is often a better close quarters option than the shotgun.

You should put knife on both mouse wheel up and down. A lot quicker to react. ;)

Yea I kept meaning to do that when I was playing, but I'd also forget, then when someone knifed me I would remember. Still I forgot to change it. :p

I might get back into it at a later date maybe.

It was fixed for MW2. Whether Black Ops uses older code or it's just because of the higher player numbers, it is broken again.
Black Ops is built on World at War (seperate developers) and only shares the basic engine with Modern Warfare 2. There's a lot of places that Black Ops is a step backwards in.

yeah knifing is more prominent than in MW2 simply because it's even more effective. I learnt very quickly that being able to knife 1st would be a massive benefit so i have bound it to the side of the mouse, my thumb is literally allways on the button so i would say my knife reactions are pretty damn quick.

Now and then though i accidentally grip my mouse too hard in a gun fight and just wave my knife in the air while someone is loading a clip into me, oh well!

Had my worst night playing the game ever, crashing at the end of most maps, this only started for me since the last patch.

Personally I think MW2 was a superior game, looks nicer, runs smoother etc. But I will probably stick with this a while just as its new and i spent a days pay on it.

It looks to me like Black Ops wasn't directly built on top of either the COD4 (original) or COD4 WaW source but that they started with a blank slate and just copy n pasted whatever feature they needed from one or the other as they went along til they ended up with the mess they have today :( i.e. there are features in in the form they were in COD4 but were removed/changed in WaW, and other features that didn't exist in the COD4 code but were added into WaW.

It's probably more prominent in Modern Warfare 2 because of the 'Commando' perk, which a lot of players had a problem with. Basically it extended the 'range' of knifing, which in practice meant players teleporting instaneously anywhere up to ten metres when knifing.

They got rid of it in Black Ops.

The knife debate will rage on untill it is fixed within the most popular of games. For me, the only fix on the PC versions of these games is to have the BF2 system. What is the problem with selecting your knife before pressing fire? Nowadays, for me anyway, it seems as though the knife is more of a panic button.

Its a shame that it has become this way, but if you look at the trend it is here to stay. BC2 and MoH have an autoaim style panic button and this means that CQB is no longer in FPS games.

I have read a few things in this thread about BF3 and I believe your enthuisiasm and faith in this game is completely misplaced.

I mean look at it..... BF2>BF2142>MoH>BC2. The frostbite engine will destroy any future BF and the hitreg issues that continue to plague DICE will not be resolved anytime soon.

Had a couple of weird issues tonight where trying to play the game it was a total slideshow, im talking 1-2fps a second and for a lot of that i was motionless. Had to reboot to get it to run properly.

Also noticed the characters having like a black colour to them when this was going on.
