i've got the impression there are a few coffee lovers on here so I thought I would ask where you got your beans from:)

Basically, dug out parents old machine (it was playing up, they stopped using it, i cleaned it up and its working again). It's a jura impressa scala, it grinds the beans up for you, and so far, all I've been using in it are some standard lavazza beans which are probably 3 years old or so...!

I figure that's where I'm going wrong! They were really just to test it out and make sure it's working, coffee's are all quite bitter and seem a bit watery, but better than instant!

So, from this I'm sure you can gather I'm a bit of a novice! But if anyone has recommendations for some tasty beans then hit me with them!

I found this place, and this particular coffee sounds nice, but they only sell 250g bags which I would prob get through a bit quick...

Also, any general tips on using the machine etc etc would be handy! Cheers.

Hasbean (www.hasbean.co.uk) can provide larger bags.
Squaremile (www.squaremilecoffee.co.uk)

Bitter would be that it's probably scalding the coffee during extraction. Sour indicates a temperature too low during extraction.

If it's still watery after you've used freshly roasted beans, then it could be that the grinder isn't grinding fine enough. It could be due to wear or simply the setting.

Thanks guys, will take a look.

Cheers for the info Nick, to be honest my taste buds probably aren't up to the task as I haven't really got any comparison..! I think I'll get some fresh beans and start from there... those sites look good.

I don't think I can control the temperature but I can control the grind.

I'm going to have to get one of these coffee machines. I normally drink instant but its very rare I'll make an enjoyable cup.

Is there any point buying beans as apposed to just getting a bag of ground coffee when i drink it with sugar and milk?
