Just been called by a crowd calling themselves Car Protect regarding a Peugeot 106 I havent owned for over 4 years. I owned this car in London, I am now in Northern Ireland. They said my warranty was about "to run out". Bit confused by this, I didn't just tell them to GTFO like I usually do to cold callers.
I explained that I bought the car used privately and had long sold it, so it never had a warranty with anyone and certainly not one "running out" now! The girl began reading off her script regarding how terrible it would be if I were slapped with a repair bill (remember I told her I didn't own the vehicle any more
) then I interrupted
I asked again the company, Car Protect. Asked the phone number/website, she said she wasn't authorised to give out the number and didn't know the website (???). Now I told her to FO and hung up!
Couple of things are bothering me about this, maybe someone can shed some light:
1) How did this "company" get my phone number, name and information about my car (regardless that it is long gone)?
2) They phoned me on my business line, which I have had for about 1 year to 13 months. DVNI/DVLA have no chance of even having this number. I have moved at least 3 times since owning that Peugeot, from London to Belfast! I hold a NI drivers license.
I would blame BT for selling my details but how did they match these things up? My BT bill is in the company name too
