Cold Car / Possible Damage

Oil level sensor or pressure sensor?!?!?

That engine only takes 3.4ltrs, so lobbing in 2ltrs randomly is a bit silly.

If I put oil in the car and the warning tells me it needs more wouldn't you check then put more in?

i had a oil level sensor flashing light after the snow... because the sensor was ripped off my sump by the ice :P

Yeah that thought crossed my mind too - after I put the oil in :o

What where you thinking man lol. Hopefully it was the cold that made you crazy :)/

Car's spent the day down my local trusted independent who have drained the oil, flushed the system, replaced oil & filter and fixed a loose engine breather hose?

I've also just traded the little Seat in - cars served me well over the past two years but the mayo in the filler cap has me paranoid so I'll be picking up my new car next week :)

Yes I would, but it sounds like you didn't actually do the 'check' bit? The dipstick is in full view in your picture, did you actually use it to verify the oil level at any point?

You have got to be joking?

Seriously?

You've traded it in because it has mayo in the filler cap?

My car has mayo in the filler cap right now, as it does every winter, because I do short trips from cold. It's completely normal.

I can't beleive you've just traded it in for that!

What did you trade it for and how much?

:D:D:D:D

Classic! That's absoloutely hilarious.

You did the right thing there mate, sounds like the car was about to go boom and leave you with big bills and no car. :D

No, because I'm a complete idiot and didn't know how to check the oil level

Of course I checked it - by the time I'd finished it was reading just a shade above the max point with the car at running temp.

I didn't trade in just for that - I was originally planning on trading in early Feb / March next year I just decided to bring the date forward a give myself an early Christmas present.

Pleased I amuse you :p

Now I'm also curious what the new car is.

By the way, I put 2 litres of oil in to mine in the year I drove it but i thought it was normal it uses about a litre for 10-15k km?

So the oil warning light only came on when the car was nearly 2 litres down from the max position on the dipstick? How often do you check the oil level?
