Having read of what happened to Rachel Corrie, a young American woman, I find it amazing that her parents have to chase the Israeli government for an apology and compensation while the American Government continues to fund the supply of further "peacekeeping" Caterpillar D9 bulldozers to the IOF

John Biden arrives to resume peace talks, Israel permit 1600 new homes in occupied territory. Israel have no intention of agreeing a peace deal under any conditions.

Don't forget though, these homes are an "exception". I don't think Israel give a hoot what America thinks of them anymore as they know the worst they will get is some "slightly" dissappointed rhetoric.

    EDIT:

Oooooohhh, I bet Israel are quaking in their boots!

    Americans, prams and toys

The American Government may have been "insulted" by Israel's "destructive" and "deeply negative" plans to steal yet more land from the Palestinians but there isn't a snowball's chance in hell that they will do anything about it because the American Government dares not upset the hugely powerful Zionist lobby.

Ne need to worry, the US Zionist lobby will see you all right

So the Israelis didn't mean to cause "offence" to the US Government when it continued with its deliberate policy of theft from the Palestinians

Close to half a million Jews live in more than 100 settlements built since Israel's 1967 occupation of the West Bank and East Jerusalem. The settlements are considered illegal under international law, although based on some twisted logic Israel disputes this and maintains that they have a special right to steal whatever takes their fancy

I've said it before many times (and been told I'm talking nonsense on these forums) but I'll say it again.

Israel do not give a stuff about the international community. They are open about that fact, and they own America, not the other way round.

They might talk peace on one hand, but they will be committing atrocities on the other. The fact that they have duped most the western population into believing they are 'on the same side' really shows how much impact and control they have over western media.

In the next 5-10 years expect Israel to expand it's territories greatly, but under the pretence it had to act in 'self defense'. Also, they will demolish the Al-Aqsa mosque in Jerusalem, they already have tunnels under it and have plans of the new temple to be built there. These events are only around the corner.

I know it's an old post but w.r.t this argument weren't the Jewish population of the area expelled by the Romans, after having 'ethnically cleansed' the area of Caananites et al themselves because apparently some invisible being told them to ? BTW it sucks when someone turns off your fresh water/electricity because it's needed somewhere else/they can (wife was in Abu Dis for a year).

Ban Ki-moon confirms that Israeli land grab is illegal

Meanwhile the Israeli mayor responsible for authorising the continuing land-grab in occupied Jerusalem visited London yesterday and wasn't arrested:

    Thieving Israeli scum

"Palestinians deemed by Israel to be there illegally

The Israelis are an occupying army; they have absolutely no right to say who is and who is not allowed to live in Palestine.

To where are these thieving scum planning to deport Palestinians when they steal their land for further "settlements"?

I'm very suprised Coas hasn't contributed to this thread yet. He seems to hold the antithesis view of Stockhausen yet equally intolerant of an alternative opinion.

    MV Rachel Corrie

The 1200-ton cargo ship had been abandoned in July 2009, off the coast of Ireland. She was then impounded after an inspection by the International Transport Federation (ITF) discovered her owners had exploited their Lithuanian crew-members - not paying their wages and subjecting them to humiliating treatment, and they had been left with just one day of food. The 42-year-old MV Linda languished for nine months, waiting in the port of Dundalk for just the right buyer to rescue her.

On March 31, 2010, the Free Gaza Movement bought her at auction for €70,000 and will send her to the imprisoned Palestinians of Gaza loaded with cement, paper, and medical equipment, all banned by Israel from this battered and bruised slice of the Mediterranean. (Photos of the MV Corrie and the people working on her).

ITF Inspector and Union organizer Ken Fleming was ecstatic: “We are pleased to announce that this vessel which was used to subject workers to modern day slavery, will now be used to promote human rights for the people of Palestine.

Added Derek Graham the bidder for Free Gaza and one of the organizers of the flotilla, "We are doing this to show the people of Gaza that they are not alone. There's nothing going into Gaza, no aid. We are prepared to run the blockade to try and get aid in. We have done it before. Out of eight previous attempts, five were successful.

The Free Gaza Movement along with the Turkish humanitarian organization, IHH, the European Campaign to End the Siege of Gaza and the Greek and Swedish Boat to Gaza organizations will sail 8 boats loaded with building supplies as well as taking 600 passengers and journalists at the end of May.

As the people from the town of Dundalk work on her every day, painting her, guarding her and collecting cargo, they have a vested interest in what was once a lonely and abandoned vessel, now slowly coming to life under their care. The ship has been renamed the MV Rachel Corrie, in memory of the 23-year-old solidarity activist crushed to death in 2003 by an Israeli military bulldozer as she attempted to prevent the demolition of a Palestinian home in Gaza.

On May Day weekend, a mini convoy of vans loaded with medical supplies from eight different cities in Ireland and England will be delivering and loading these badly-needed supplies on the ship. The people of Norway have donated more than 6 tons of paper and school supplies with a goal of 25 tons to be loaded as cargo. Israel refuses to allow paper and supplies in for the children.

One of Free Gaza’s organizers, Caoimhe Butterly, stated, " The public response to the cargo ship has been immense, and we hope that in the remaining three weeks before we set sail, communities across Ireland will continue to mobilize and gather supplies. The humanitarian crisis in Gaza is a symptom of Israel’s siege and Occupation, and this flotilla will spot-light the devastating collective punishment that is being imposed on Palestinians in the Gaza Strip."

With everyone’s help, the MV Rachel Corrie will be painted, outfitted, then filled with cargo and ready to leave shortly after May Day, a testimony to civil society doing what governments have refused to do…alleviate the suffering of the people of Gaza.

Donations for supplies are still vitally needed. You can earmark your donation for cement or school books and send through our donate page at http://www.freegaza.org/en/donate.

Yesterday we witnessed the usually hidden face of Israeli terrorism. I am sure that if you are reading this post, you will be aware that Israeli forces yesterday morning attacked a peaceful aid convoy which was attempting to bring much needed humanitarian aid to the persecuted people isolated in the Gaza ghetto (BBC online.

I realise that some of you are less than positive about the efforts of the Palestinian people to recover their homeland, most of you really couldn't care less and a few of you actually agree with me that the Israelis are not very nice people. I will not try to alter your views. What I would ask is that if you believe that this act of piracy and murder should not pass without criticism, you consider spending just a few moments emailing your MP; you could also do the same with the British Foreign Secretary William Hague (haguew@parliament.uk) and the leader of the Liberal Democratic party Nick Clegg (cleggn@parliament.uk).

You might find it convenient to cut and paste the following text as the basis of your email:

If you want to know more about the Free Gaza Movement, have a look HERE and HERE.

You might also like to boycott Israeli goods

    Thank you :)
