Coming close to resigning?

Has anyone in a job come close to resigning, or even actually done it without having a job to go to and had responsibilities (mortgage, etc) as it were?

Does this negatively affect a CV?

I considered it about six weeks ago after some comments from certain managers (which really have been the last straw and caused me to start seeking new employment), but realised that it would have been a stupid decision despite just how awful I felt at that point because, as has been stated, it's generally a lot easier to get a new job if you're currently employed.

Got to remember that even in future, you'll find it needs to be explained. Every application form I've filled out in the past week or so has demanded explanations for any gaps in education/employment (I have a year between leaving college and starting my apprenticeship, for example).

I did. Quit one 'career' with a company that uses it's junior management as slave labour, whilst promising huge riches - like a pyramid scheme really. I got a temping job the following week, was offered and took a permanent post shortly afterwards for the interim job security. I'd been dwelling on it for a while, with the idea that I'd go for the career I'd always considered, but ruled out. Best thing I ever did. It took two years from start to finish to get in to my new career, but I've now been there for five years and I'm still enjoying every day.

Yes Ive just quit mine last week!

Its a £21,000 sales job. Was not happy... In the end of the day its my life not someone elses. Need the time to really find something else... when you in employment that is difficult etc.

I realised If I can sell an average of £2,500 every week via telephone in this day n age then I can do it for myself!!

It really comes down to how confident you are finding another job and how much you have in the bank.

Do as little work as possible, rob the hell out of the place, and go all out to find another job.

I have twice resigned from a job and not had a job to go to. Once when I was fairly young (maybe 22..23ish) and once when I was older (around 30ish). Both times I took a year out, relaxed a little, recharged my batteries and then went and got another job.

I did this when I decided I wanted to move back to the UK from Germany. It was a bit worrying although i had some savings and I needn't have worried as I was fortunate to get a job a week or two after moving back to the UK, before I'd properly finished at the previous job (I was using up holiday when i actually moved back).

I resigned from the police in january, out of the blue to the shift etc (however - i'd considered it for a long time) I didn't have anything to go to but my health and happiness came first, the day after I handed in my letter of resignation - after numerous attempts by bosses etc for me to come back I noticed that more and more work got offered to me - I now have part time hours (quickly building up to full time) doing something I love - have my life back and am happy!

Go for it, think positive and never look back!

Good luck

Can you not go "self employed" as in terms of your CV - still looks as though you are employed!!

How many years in did you have and what was your last role? What are you doing now (if you don't mind me asking)?

Yea I came close, but then realised I would be in a worse situation if I didn't have something to move to so I sorted a new job out first, then quit.

Previous 2 jobs i quit before i even started looking. No "commitments" though so wasn't too worried. Was only out of work for a month or so each time. My CV is good enough that it's never too hard to find a job.

Not really a big one, but I walked out of a job.

It was Wally world/Currys, and I've never been treated in such contempt in my whole entire life.

I asked for a holiday 4 times several months before the holiday actually was, on the 4th time(after losing 3 holiday forms) I was told 'too late to book it'.

So I told them just what I thought of them as 'managers' and walked out. Must have hit a nerve, nothing was said and I was paid my wages up to that day.
