Command & Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars coming to X360

Bloody EA. Knowing them we'll have to purchase the mammoth tank and orca off the marketplace  :)

A keyboard/mouse is obviously much better for RTS's, but EA did a pretty good job with the LOTR RTS game, wasn't perfect but was very good.

It depends if the Developers (EA I guess :() take the time to develop the game interface with the controler in mind.

IMO no RTS has managed to use the gamepad perfectly yet, but some games have made a good effort, I'm not optimistic.
Could it actually be possible for an RTS to use a gamepad all that well though? I mean, the very nature of how RTS game work is very tailored towards a mouse/keyboard combination, because that's the system it was originally designed for. Much like FPS games, you might get good games of that genre on the consoles, but control system will still be inferior to that of a PC.

as long as they make it so that the gamer does not get frustrated trying to do something then they will have succeeded.

You are right a mouse will make a lot of things eaiser (percise). But imo it is the keyboard that was more important in RTS games. With the number of keys available you could perform certian tasks with the keyboard whilst doing others with the mouse.

I completed the Original C&C on playstation with the control pad. While easily doable (is that a word ) I could imagine multiplayer over live with nothing more than a control pad would be very hard. Then again maybe it would make that bit better as i tend to find RTS games are won and lost way to fast online now. I've had WoW duels last longer than some C&C Generals games.

I'm not saying RTS games aren't "doable" on a console, because obviously they can be. I just wonder whether it's actually possible to create a console RTS game that would have a responsive enough control method to satisfy the best players. Could it be easily done, or would it requite completely changing how RTS games work on consoles, so it would be almost as impossble to port that game back onto the PC?

It's more the exact combination of keyboard and mouse that works so well for RTS games. The keyboard defines what actions you wish to perform, while the mouse defines exactly where you want it to happen. With a control pad you're limited by both accuracy in positioning (by using a stick instead of a mouse) and in actions (by having far less buttons to use). I'm just not sure if there's any easy way to overcome that.

In terms of the buttons, perhaps a combination system would be better, whereby the face buttons would perform differently depending on what shoulder buttons you have pressed down, or something.

its true - the original ps worked "okay" with C&C, but i presume this woill be a more complex game and may not be as easy to play with a pad.

does anyone know if this game is any good yet?

i heard lord of the rings on the 360 had a good control system

looking foward to this :)

It was better but still **** poor. Became a chore to do stuff quickly that you do without thinking with a KB and mouse.

i will definately be buying this one

thats the only game i miss from selling my gaming pc

hope they do a good job with the controls though :/
