Compact camera for cold and wet conditions - A tough camera

I need to replace my trusty small, well not that small nowadays, camera that I have had since 2003 (Canon S30).

I am off snowboarding again to Italy before Christmas and Japan after. So I want a compact camera which is tough enough to withstand my constant crashing It also of course needs to withstand and work in the cold and the water from defrosting snow. Well in other words I need a tough camera. It also needs to be a good camera for general sight seeing

What tough camera would you guys recommend?

I have a Pentax Optio WPi (old model, now superceded) which has survived being thrown in snow and photographing a shark.

Any of the waterproof cameras should be OK. I imagine you would be carrying it in a pocket and any impact that could damage it would probably damage you as well.

In addition look out for:
- optical viewfinder, useful if you can't see the LCD screen.
- big buttons so you can keep your gloves on.
