I need to replace my trusty small, well not that small nowadays, camera that I have had since 2003 (Canon S30).

I am off snowboarding again to Italy before Christmas and Japan after. So I want a compact camera which is tough enough to withstand my constant crashing :D It also of course needs to withstand and work in the cold and the water from defrosting snow. Well in other words I need a tough camera. It also needs to be a good camera for general sight seeing :)

What tough camera would you guys recommend?

I have a Pentax Optio WPi (old model, now superceded) which has survived being thrown in snow and photographing a shark.

Any of the waterproof cameras should be OK. I imagine you would be carrying it in a pocket and any impact that could damage it would probably damage you as well.

In addition look out for:
- optical viewfinder, useful if you can't see the LCD screen.
- big buttons so you can keep your gloves on.
