Getting back into photography and was wondering if there is any compact flash viewers on the market worth looking at.

I know I can just use my camera but wanted to see if these are any good to view photos while I'm out and about.

There used to be a few devices out there which were designed as storage devices (card reader plus HDD) and some of them had screens but they were generally expensive and a bit rubbish. They seem to have disappeared now that flash memory is so cheap.

If you want a bigger screen when out and about then a small laptop or an iPad/tablet with a camera kit is going to be you're best bet

As rpstewart has already mentioned, the market for these type of devices seems to have died as a result of the tablets that now exist.

Canon and Epson made devices that allowed you to upload photographs and then view them on a fairly large screen (for the time), problem is they were expensive.

The Canon Media Storage M30 and M80 and the Epson Photo Viewer series (P-2000, P-3000, P-6000, P-7000 and P-9000) were available but I suspect are probably discontinued/in short supply.

Personally I would invest in more CF cards, they're fairly cheap nowadays. Personally unless the picture is massively under/over exposed or obviously blurred I never delete them. I keep them on the card until I get them home and then view them on a monitor

yes i have seen those canon devices and are rather expensive :)

Just wanted something with a larger screen to view photo's while im out.

might just get a cheap tablet if i feel the need to get a larger screen.

I guess a lot of high end cameras also now have dual storage slots, which negates the need for a secondary device to make a backup.
