companies taking money question

Just a quickie.

I ordered something from another company through an online store on the 19th, they took the money the same day however they still haven't dispatched the item and it still shows as processing on their website.

I was under the impression that they couldn't take the money until the day of the item being dispatched. Is this correct?

I don't know if it's changed, however OcUK used to take your money on placing the order with regards pre-orders even if the items were a good couple of weeks away.
