A couple of mates and I tried to have an online blast on COH last night and had an absolute nightmare connecting with each other!

Generally it would let one of us join a game hosted by one of the others but the 3rd person got a "NAT" error when trying to connect - no matter who hosted the server!?!?

We have all got the relevant ports open as per Portforward.com and were still having no luck.
Eventually we got a game working by physically searching for the game on the game list and connecting manually rather than using the invite friend function - but even this seems to be pretty random!?!?

Has anyone had similar problems and overcome them??

Thanks...

I think these kind of issues were one reason my mate has all but given up on PC gaming - CoH was one of the few PC games he played but we've had nothing but connections problems every time we've tried - sometimes spending 15-20 mins just trying to connect and eventually giving up :(

Shame as it's great fun when you get it going ... will have to try it again and see ... one thing I think that didn't help was that he'd forgotten his routers login and wasn't sure which ports he had forwarded :p

I get this problem. Some days I can connect to mates other days I can't. Weirdly the fix I found for this was to close the game down, pull out my internet RJ45 cable out the back of the PC then stick it back it, re launch the game and it connects. No idea why but it works for me.

Unfortunately CoH is notoriously bad for the NAT error messages. If your router is uPnP compatible, and you're using Windows Vista or Windows 7, you'll need to find the router on your network using Network Places, and then right-click on it and select Properties. On a lot of uPnP compatible routers, you'll have the option of specifying port forwarding options in there. It seems that CoH ignores the port forwarding that has been set up in my router unless I set it up through that as well. Aside from the above, that's the only advice that I can offer. It really is a pain to get around.

/notes network places trick - will see if that helps although my mates still on XP so won't be of much use to him!

Will have to persuade him to just reset his damn router!!

Thanks for the replies guys - oh and theotheroption - I'd have been happy with 15-20 mins - it took us over an hour last night to get a game up and running!!!

I'll try the network connection idea and I've also just read on another forum that it might help if you disable the Relic updater thats sat in your task tray too!?!?!
Worth a try at least!!

Ironically enough night before last me and a mate tried COH (havent played in months)

We had loads of NAT error messages even with ports forwarded , once my mate
disabled his routers firewall it was fine

BT homehub routers have this problem. I never found a solution other than get a different router

i found a fix for using BT home hub. It involved using a simple java program called Port Mapper.

Simply forward the ports on the homehub to your computer, then do the same using port mapper and it works :).

Its something to do with the homehub not forwarding ports correctly.

I dont have the link to download it anymore but ive got a copy of portmapper if anyone wants me to host it somewhere for you to try out.

*edit fyi this also works on other routers that may have issues

Heres a link anyway

in the same boat, tried to fix it: opening ports, reconfiguring router etc... but in the end gave up. but at least i can play on some servers 50% if I am lucky but realistically would say only a third
