Company of heros bundled with Asus 8800GT

Trying to get this POS game to work, I've installed it and there's no icon on the desktop but no worries I go into programmes and launch from there, it then insists on a download patch before I can do anything after 7 hours of downloading just over 100MB file installed and now it's needing another download 114MB this time.

Is this the way it is or am I missing something? Wouldn't it be great on dial up:mad:

Any help would be appreciated:)

I assume this "opposing fronts"? I had exactly the same prob. Thers just a lot to d/l before you can even play the game. It gets better. I can't eactly remember which (I think it could have been the DX9/DX10 option) in the game menu it was, but if I enabled/disabled it, the pc locked up, game froze, etc and no way would it play, so.....I had to reinstal the game and go through whole procedure again!
I agve up after a while and haven't bothered with it since, wanna second copy?:p

I never even got that far. Kept coming up with disc errors whilst installing. Tried 3 different optical drives and then another pc before i concluded that the disc was faulty.

OcUK said I would have to get in touch with ASUS. Started the process, then gave up.

Oh dear looks like it's going in the bin then, sad they bundle something that brings unhappiness, one thing I'm glad about at least I didn't buy the card for the game.

Yeah sadly they dont really care about how big the patches are they release. Just before Opposing Fronts came out they released 2GB patch for normal COH so it was compatible with OF........a heck of a lot if your not on broadband (even then its still considerable).

Mind you, i love Opposing Fronts, i think the 2 new factions really spice things up, adds a lot more variety to the game imo (was a big fan of the original too). Try and fight through these patches and problems, and youl have a really awesome game to play :).

dont give uip i got CoH OF with my Asus 8800GT and its a great game actually. it aint a ww2 sim, but its a decent game online

but yes massive patches, but the patches are for the good of the game. persevere!

Admitedly, that 2GB patch i was on about, brung in a load of new maps for free + nice graphical upgrades here and there :).

So eventually I should be able to play it with the patches? Maybe I did something wrong installing but when installed it wouldn't let me go past the first download, when I installed that it immediately wanted another 138MB patch which I haven't managed to download yet, when that's done will I be able to play or will it want even more?

I just want to play at home on my own PC I just ain't into it enough to go online.

Thanks for all the replies, because of your help I'm not giving up:)

Yeah im pretty sure there was another patch to download after the 1st one, lol :( They also seemed to have stopped doing cumulative patches.......

Anyway once its patched up (again) you should be good to go !

7hrs for a 100Mb file?!

That's just under 4kb/s. Even 56k dial-up should offer up to 7kb/s, so yeah - there must be some problem with your connection. Getting less than dial-up speeds shouldn't be the way.

But yes - internet content delivery, whether for patches or even full games, seems very popular these days, and unfortunately 100Mb+ for a patch is commonplace.

Hi I'm on 2 Meg broadband but their server was painfully slow would do say
1 mb in about 3 mins then say lost connection so I had to reconnect every
1-3mb through the whole download, but when the link from above was given I managed the 130mb in about 15mins or so, I went for a drink it was done when I came back.

But now the dammed thing has crashed I can't remove it from add remove programmes or through it's own install programme, when I start my PC now it does error checking every time something has messed up I think.

When you download via the game auto update it saves the patches in Documents and Settings\My Documents\My Games\Company of Heroes\Patch
