Why do companys have different names?

i.e. Overclockers UK, which is also Esnet Limited :/

the company i work for has a similar setup, name it uses is relates to what the company does but the bracketed bit is as far as i can tell random!

Companies can use a 'trading name'. For example, the government-owned SLC trades as "Student Finance Direct" because it sounds better.
