mum just googled my name and found a complaint about me on complaint.com, which although is so stupid, has very personal information about me, one being my exact home address which i want removed but i cannot see any way to do that.

hoping someone knows about this as i'd like to atleast get the address removed asap.

if you have to know why they are complaining i will post but it's not exaclty needed.

what did they complain about :p

send them an email, but if they just have your address from your name then surly its no different to the phone book?

how can you search the site? all i get is a page to submit complaints?

edit: nvm missed the s off

ha you found me, good detective skills.

ok i explain. So stupid, bascially pretty much ad made most of the site, finally comes to her going to pay me but just before i decide time for a proper email rather then hotmail, tell her it is changing and to email there from then on. week later get nothing, start forgetting about her as i had other work to be done, month later remember her think weird get not one email from her, check hotmail and got like 10 saying she will complain blah blah blah and she thinks im going to sell the site on. i didn't bother emailing back as she was rather rude in the emails and the amount i was getting paid (£60 minus taxs) wasn't worth the bother and i figured she can find someone else for triple price if she going to be rude.

anyway whats really stupid is that this is just before payment, not after but before payment so in "ignoring" her emails i gained nothing but infact lost £60. and also she thinks the i'm selling on the idea but it obviously hasn't been done as the name isn't up so at most i could have "re" sold the website though i could have done that pretty much anyway, without text of course, as the site is my design just her text, which she copied btw.

so silly i spent a while doing the site, then just before she pays i "ignore" her and resell it which i could have done anyway. Not like her idea was unique just a laundry company which is set up by using an online form.

never finished it in the end either and as a result was never put up on my old portfolio website which is why i did it so cheap which makes the situation even more stupid.

So anyway back on topic, anyone know how i can atleast get the address remove,d but even better whole thing, rather stupid people can post any information they want and i have no way of stopping it.

Well, you could email them - their address is [email protected]. Alternatively, their phone number is +1 630 245 0000.

As the site is owned by an American company, and the servers are based in the US too, I'd go for the softly-softly approach rather than taking the Perry Mason approach. The Americans don't have a great track record when it comes to data privacy.

nope differnt guy, similiarish situation though  have to say though in the end both cases are not my fault just communication issues and as they say you live and learn

reasding there terms it says they don't investigate whether the situation is true or not and don't censor anything.

could always explain and offer her the site for £120 due to her disclosing personal information about you etc or some other bs

nah deleted the files a while back after a cleanup of pc iirc, plus as said in the post a few above, she was very rude and angry so didn't want to make the site after that and cut any further communication with her. I'm going to email her if i have her email and see what she says.

even if i offer that she wouldn't accept as it's double price and would not remove the information form the site.

[edit]

dang haven't got her email. over last 6 months i have made 5 sites for people not family/friend of friends related and had problems with 3 :( so glad im doing this when young and learning all the mistakes which can go wrong. I'm really not a bad person btw trying to do dodgy stuff or anything, just i guess i need to get things clear when working for a customer over the internet

you dont exactly cover yourself in glory in that thread do you.... i agree with icraig's interpretation of it....

i dont know the details but i have a funny feeling that the complaint might be justified :D

fair enough, many people had differnt views in that thread and i appreciated them all, as i have said i learnt form my mistakes and it's obvious i need to have these things in writing in some way before any work starts.

From seeing both sides of this situation do you not think that i haven't actually done anything wrong except not rechecking an old email address after i stopped using it?

whip up a dudd solicitors email and send her it saying you are requesting that she remove the slander etc from the website or civil actions will be taken against her, as shs is accusing you of doing something you did infact never do. Or breaching data protection by posting your info up there? Something to scare the woman, shes a laundrette, 'ardly gunna be up to date on IT laws.

i wish i had the english skills to make an email sound as though it came from a real solicitor, must be all that code writting making me forget real english :D plus i don't have her email anyway. just searched and can't find a website for her either so can't see how i can contact her. If the information can't be removed in a simple way would it be worth speaking to someone about it ie. a solicitor? i will speak to the mother of myself tomorrow and see what she says i guess

yeah i agree not really your fault you told her your new email she being stupid just continues to send to old email and adds in numerous insults?

but you can also do them for slander like peetee has said re: about the personal info on this website address.

In fact im surprised that the website allows such slanderous personal info (goes to have a look at complaints.com) because the hosting site can get in trouble as well.

crude example: remember those videos with Mr Tom scientology nutter cruise? :D You can bet he'll have his people running around getting them taken down asap and potentially even take action against the hosting sites. (ie sending threatening letters to the sites to remove the offending video or face legal action)

may want to contact the isp actually yea, they might word an email for you to req it gets taken down.
Could also send an email from fake account requesting that they take the information down as they live at the address on the website and have started receiving nasty mail meant for you, who doesnt live there?

ooo good idea, if nothing else works guess thats a last resort. thanks everyone, best be going to bed now, will post back with whats happening.

hrmm option to mark complaint as inappropriate? ;)

clicked it a few times but nothing really happens, just says they will look into it though what they'll look into i don't know as i can't put any information in when clicknig it and in there terms they say they don't censor information so they will look and surely just repeat there terms.
