I have an EP3 Type R which is Kpro'd.

I'm looking to get an induction and exhaust system before having it custom mapped.

With exhausts how much gain would I possibly see with having a catback system? Would I also require an exhaust manifold for it to work optimally? or would I see significant gains with just the bpipe ( bit from the cat to the muffler??? )

I like the backbox of the standard EP3, the dual pipe. Will it be ok to keep this?

Also any recommendations for this car? £500ish

Thanks for helping a computer geek who likes "driving" cars not knowing specifically how they work.

id recon, for info specific like that, youre best off speaking to an enthusiast forum, theyll hopefully know specificall whats worth your while and whats not and just beware of forum sheep just bleeting the derigeur brand names, see if you can find out whats actually worth fitting and whats not

I heard the standard back box is good for 300bhp. An un-silenced B-pipe removes a lot of restriction which is what most people do. The manifold will need a map to suit it or they run too lean IIRC. But I think the Krpo base map covers that.

DC Sports mani is quite popular I think. Most people run a cat back so I don't know about the b-pipe. I think it was Supersprint who did one. Or you could get a Spoon one if they still come up. I had a Magnex back box on mine which looked OEM and made a lovely sound.

I think you need to star reading up on engine and exhaust design.

Seems to be the typical idea of stick on bits with each bit giving 'x' horse power. It doesn't work like that, especially with VTEC engines. As I said in the previous thread, it's a waste of time getting a k-pro and leavng a standard map on and might do more harm than good.

Decat, full system and manifold, intake at minimum before you start looking for a tune in my opinion. £500 wont be nearly enough to cover decent parts for all these areas.

At least for me personally anyway. None of those on their own is really worth the money you will dump on a decent days tuning.

(Tip - NA tuning costs a FORTUNE)

Get an unsilenced 2.5" B-Pipe, standard back box is fine.

I'd go for the Spoon 4-2 and 2-1(the decat bit) then you can bolt in your standard 2-1 for MOT time. The spoon 4-2 on its own see's decent gains

As for induction, don't bother untill you can afford one of these http://www.tegiwaimports.com/eshop/store/eshop_viewItem.asp?idProduct=1353

Otherwise the standard airbox with a performance filter is more than good enough

Actually i think the best bang for buck you'll see is fitting an RBC intake manifold. Makes a massive difference on the K20, namely a lot more mid range torque. Think you can get them pre-modded for about 300ish nowadays.

Unless you're changing the whole exhaust system inc CAT then its all a bit of a waste of time and money and even if you do change the whole system its still a waste of time and money.

A full system will set you back the best part of a grand it will sound obscenely loud and the real world gains really arent worth it for the cost

Obviously thats my opinion, I'm sure others will happily advise you to spend a grand on some metal tubing

£500 wont get you a lot, some cat backs are more then that alone!
If you're not already, get yourself on civiclife.net, quite a large forum

£500 on both an exhaust and intake isn't worthwhile, in less you are just looking for more noise as your likely not going to get any more performance than the Honda OEM parts for that money.

You are probably better off getting a decent induction kit (2nd hand Gruppe M or a Tegiwa copy) and a remap for your £500 if you are looking for more power. Another option is spending the £500 on a fast road setup/lowering springs to improve the cornering capabilities of the car, which is where the most fan can be had.

As mentioned N/A tuning is costly on the K20, save up and get a supercharger or another car if you are after more power ;) I went for a S/C last year and love it.
