Computer desks

Got some huge ikea slab of wood with legs...cost a fair bit actually...had it about 5 years though so far, nout wrong with it yet

i made my own using a kitchen work top... its sweet if you're tall. im 6'3 and most sub £150 desks are designed for elf's

Some of the desks are ridiculous.

I do not know why they can not make a desk that is sturdy, has cable management down the legs and is not more than 1m wide and 60cm deep.

All the desks are either ugly or 1600mm or 1200mm or both.

Annoying isn't it? That's why I ended up turning to ebay for one that could fit into a corner in my lounge. Otherwise, consider getting one made?

What I did that works well is buy a large table top to plonk on my smaller desk.
If you can't find a table top, can you not get a thick sheet of mdf or wood from a hardware shop, cut to size and then just finish it yourself?

Is that veneered or chipboard with fake wood effect? Looks pretty good for the price but I'm not getting another chipboard deck unless its veneered as all the ones ive had so far have looked great for a year or 2 then the pattern begins to wear off and it looks tatty.

It's veneered. It's a sturdy bit of kit and well worth the cash.

Kitchen worktop, cut to length of wall. Baton along the back and side walls, few legs at the front. Hole cutter a few holes near the back for cables. Slide a few office drawers on wheels under. Best desk ever.

Thanks, gah I cant decide which to go for now. The glass Ikea one looks more modern but I like the look of real wood. Are you sure its veneered and not the fake wood effect stuff? Looks really sturdy from the pics.

I have one of these (not exact same desk bit similar) from this place, i highly advise avoiding this company. Most useless ****s i've ever purchased anything from, support is crap, my desk arrived looking like it had been chucked down a flight of stairs, parts were missing.

Really don't rate that company one bit from personal experience. The desk itself though, once built after a few emails of arguing about damage and missing parts is quite nice
