I rarely turn my computer off and just put it to sleep overnight, however the last few days it seems to be waking up on its own during the night. Last night at least 4 times...

Obviously I checked the timing of remote updates and AV scans and they are still the times I left them (around noon) so I'm a bit amis as to what is going on. Is it likely to be anything dodgy?

So far I took the batteries out of my wireless mouse to check it it was interference from that (moving the mouse wakes it up) and it still woke up. I'm tempted to check if network wake is turned on as well. Oddly it seems to be getting worse and after about 8am it doesn't turn on by itself again so it appears to be at least partially time dependant...

I had this and from memory I:

- Made sure Windows Media Centre updates weren't set to automatic.
- Changed the time of Windows general updates.
- Disallowed all USB devices from being able to wake the PC from standby.

One of those fixed it.

I don't particularly want to disallow USB devices to wake because that's how I wake it up but if nothing else fixes it I may have to.

Try disabling it in the BIOS and leaving it in Windows, sounds odd but I think optical mice are so sensitive that they can wake up PCs without being moved sometimes when it's set in the BIOS, but if it's only set in Windows, only a button can I believe.

I know when I disabled Wake on Ring and Wake on Alarm in the BIOS for example, Wake on LAN still worked fine for example in Windows.

My HTPC will sometimes turn itself on from sleep randomly.
I know its not keyboard or mouse related because I have nether attached (all run from ir remote) but I suspect its some errant network activity triggering Wake On Lan.
Also my main machine will sometimes turn itself on if I am waching a movie with a particularly heavy bass which is always ammusing.

Check the TV guide update schedule in Media Centre.

Also are you sure your ir receiver isn't to blame?

Well it woke again last night and it is a USB device. I took the batteries out of the mouse and there was no more waking so it may be that (think the batteries are running low). I did do that the other night as well though and it continued waking so I'll try again tonight. Think I'll get some new batteries as well...

Thanks guys. :)
