I Have an old but not to bad rig thats the kids now. Its an old OC rig;

Q6600 at 2.4GHz
Corsair 650 PSU
2x2GB DDR2 memory
abit IP35 XE mobo
Upgraded to a 6850 GPU a few years ago
had difficulties with the on switch last year (plastic broke) so now use the reset switch as the on switch

When you turn it on it comes to life Leds fans etc for a moment showing 83 as the mobo code then almost immediately goes off and shows 99 as the code which I seem to remember is a generic wont boot code.

Any ideas what wrong or how to fix it.

Have you tried booting up with bios defaults? One stick of memory, tested in each individual slot?

remove CMOS battery for 30 mins.

Unplug everything apart from 24pin atx and 12v cpu rail.

remove gpu try with onboard if you have it.

Take out of case and put bundle on a cardboard box and try that.

we have lift off..... when I removed battery, main cable to mobo and HD for a while it has fired up and gone through full disc check OK

What does this mean, if the battery runs low/out can that be enough, sorry if dumb question

Most likely was a problem with the BIOS. Removing the CMOS battery and leaving it for a bit will reset the BIOS.

Clear CMOS would have likely worked all the same, they don't put that jumper on the board just to look pretty.
