Does anyone know anything about this Dogmoosh (sp?) clan in Gaza who are said to have kidnapped Alan Johnson?

I'm just thinking, its funny how they've never kidnapped anyone before, and its a coincidence that the kidnapping coincided with a Hamas offensive to capture Gaza. Oh well, lets see what happens...

You know you can help more than just by attacking Isreal? Why are Palestinians still living as refugees in camps in Syria, Jordan and Lebanon after over 50 years? How come they haven't been absorbed into the populations of those countries by now? Possibly because it suits those nations to keep them as refugees.

I guess your correction is probably appropriate.
I don't think it's contradictory, I meant that they find having the Palestinians as a thorn in Israel's side is something they support, even if most of them don't overtly support the Palestinians with weapons.

I know it's the least scary name of any gang I've ever heard of :D

But yes, I agree, and didn't think they appear on TV yesterday saying they had nothing to do with it? That doesn't mean they are telling the truth of course, but my gut feeling is that people who kidnap other people tend to do it for a reason, and are happy to tell the general public about that reason.

As with most governments, distractions from failure of government is always welcome for those in power!

Whenever I hear the name I think of that Afghan guy we gave asylum to who used to keep a human dog and set it on anyone who didn't pay him what he wanted.

Hamas summarily executed one of the clan yesterday :(

There is an interesting article on the BBC web-site that perhaps gives some insight into the reasons behind the conflict between Fatah and Hamas.
It does seem that Fatah were recognised by many as being thoroughly corrupt, inefficient and out of touch with the majority of Palestinians.

In fact, not all that different from Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, the last Shah of Iran, Saddam Hussein and the rulers in Saudi Arabia and other Gulf states who are so enthusiastically supported by the West.

I'm not quite sure why you suggest that it was a "letter bomb"

Interesting to see that the BBC have reported that Hezbollah criticised the attack on the UN Peace Keepers, describing it as an "act of aggression... aimed at increasing insecurity in Lebanon, especially in the south of the country".

Hmm, sure I read it was, but that doesn't make sense. Oh well, my brain wasn't functioning properly yesterday :p

    Yes, a tad hypocritical isn't it? ;)

Strange that the Israelis should suddenly be so concerned by the brutality and criminality of their soldiers when for years, they have simply turned a blind eye. I wonder whether they will do the same in Gaza?

I wonder why there should be one version of history for Israeli Arabs and another for the rest?

Who cares? There are far more important events taking place in the region right now.
