This spotted this on the bbc website, hope its not already been posted.

I remember a while back there was a thread about the Australian PM John Howard saying a similar thing, and pretty much everyone who posted agreed that it was a very good thing to do and wished Blair would say the same thing.
It seems he finally has. Its not quite the same but its a step in the right direction.

Yes, but John Howard uses actions to back up his words.. I can't see Blair doing that..

Without describing the context of what he means by "Conform", I would suggest that speech is pretty meaningless.
