Could someone explaine this to me.

I have a x1600 SE ATI card.

I was going to get an X1950 pro, but have decided to get an Asus EN8800GT 512mb.

I need to upgrade my PSU and pop another fan in there.

However, my PC is about a year old (Packard Bell) and I am confused over this PCIe 2.0?

What is it?

My system is core 2 duo [email protected]
I have 2gb ddr2 ram
Only one PCIe slot
250w PSU (can you believe that!!)

I do hope that the new card will work - but if someone can explaine the difference between 2.0 and 1.0 I would really appreciate it.

Q4: It sounds as if both speed grades are supported in the PCIe 2.0 specification?
A4: The PCIe Base 2.0 specification supports both 2.5GT/s and 5GT/s signaling rates, in order to retain backward compatibility with existing PCIe 1.0 and 1.1

PCI-X != PCI-E

PCI-X (PCI Extended) is a different technology to PCI-E (PCI Express), however the point still stands that 2.0 is backwards compatible with 1.0 and 1.1 however there have been reports of some 8800GTs not working with a small number of older boards. All the reports I've read have been from pre-C2D boards though, so you should be absolutely fine :)
