For the highest polluting vehicles, such as 4x4s.

I'm personally all for raising the tax for the higher polluting vehicles, but was quite shocked to see the £8 charge rise to £25!!!

Do you think that that is too much? Or is it good for Londoners?

Linkity link

The sort of person who can afford to own and run a 4x4 will probably have enough cash to pay £25 a day to drive in London.

I can't escape the feeling that it represents shameless revenue generation though...

Since when did the congestion charge become an emissions tax?

Ken is nothing but a communist newt loving tree hugger.

As we all know 4x4 generate more pollution than a old, diesel bus that's been in operation since the 70's.

To be honest all these "green" crap is getting my goat, without China, India and the U.S. joining in some kind of Kyoto accord it's just nonsense.

It just becoming another way to "TAX" those who work, to be honest I don't know why we bother :(

We have to give 40% of our salary away anyway, with VAT thats close to 60%, at what point will the pip squeek they seem to be trying there best to find out.

Red Ken needs the extra money to pay for his botched jolly to Cuba and Venezuala. £35k was the cost to taxpayers. Hmm

My thoughts exactly there!

I really think that they will continue squeezing until we squeek, but thats true of most governments really :/

Are the old buses still in operation though, I don't think i've seen one for quite some time?

Not bothered at all. I think its good that 4x4 drivers are targetted. If they live in the zone and drive 4x4s they have too much money anyway.

Kens an idiot (IMHO of course :p )

I concur.

The CC isn't done for pollution's sake, or congestion's sake - it has hardly changed, it really hasn't. It's pure revenue generation. They are still in debt for the original installation and system infrastructure. However I agree there is no need for 4x4s in London, but at the same time, the bendy busses cause a lot of issues too, as do vans and trucks - so it's a bit of a hypocritical statement.

I'm sure the UK is getting better and better at clean energy, compared to Asia and the US at any rate.

Yeah they just get given their money, they don't earn it for long hours work, stress, responsibility etc ;)

Fancy wanting to work hard and have nice things, No personal insults please!

excellent, should reduce the demand for 4x4's for town persons anyway

Welll MPV's are pretty large, shouldn't those be charged as well?

Or do we just target the rich because they know they will pay!

Why is it OK to target the rich and not the poor I wonder ;)

People, a little perspective.

How many of you actually drive in central (and I mean central) london during the hours of the charge's operation?

Its a relatively small zone that operates between office hours, monday to friday - when most people use public transportation, walk or bike to work.

Personally, I walk to work in the week. The weekend is free to drive into london as much as I please, and even park for free in some places  (shh, its a secret)

People need to remember that this isn't a charge that hits you as soon as you breach the M25..

4x4 users should be put on trial for murder of the Planet and then put into concentration camps with their remains being distributed in an eco-friendly manner.
