Connect both headphones and speakers?

Hey all.

Thinking on getting a sound card and have narrowed it down to either the Xonar DS or DX. Was wondering for both cards whether you can have both speakers and headphones connected at the same time and just switch between them via software?

Windows Vista and 7 lets you choose what output you want; either output on sound card or front panel headphone jack, or whatever other outputs you have.

I have my speakers connected to the back & I use the front panel on my case to plug my headphones in, works fine for me.

I have Xonor Essence STX.

It has seperate ports for headpones and speakers. Switch output using their software.

slight hijack, but i have the xonar d2x and was wondering how i could get the front panel connected up and switch between? would i need to have the onboard enabled at the same time or can i plug the front panel into the mobo and do it through that?
