Connecting DisplayPort monitor to 2017 iMac?

I'm going to be ordering my new 27" iMac early next week and it suddenly occurred to me that I don't think I have any way of plugging my Dell P2414H monitor into it. It's connected to my 2011 iMac using a Thunderbolt to DisplayPort cable.

What's going to be best for the new iMac? A USB-C to Thunderbolt adapter or a specific USB-C to DisplayPort cable? Will something like this do the job?

Thanks.

I don't have a 2017 iMac but thought I'd have a look and try and find an answer, so hope this is right. According to this Apple Support document: https://support.apple.com/en-gb/HT204154

The Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) - Thunderbolt 2 Adapter doesn't support Mini DisplayPort Displays

Thunderbolt 3

For Mac models with Thunderbolt 3, you can use a use a Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) to Thunderbolt 2 Adapter to connect to Thunderbolt devices like displays and external disks.

Note that although it uses a Mini DisplayPort connector, the Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) to Thunderbolt 2 Adapter doesn't support connections to Mini DisplayPort displays. Also, this adapter supports only one powered Thunderbolt 2 device on a USB-C equipped Mac.

I would be looking for a dedicated USB-C to DisplayPort Cable. Also noticed the cable you linked to in your original post only supports 4K @ 30Hz. You may want to look at a cable capable of supporting 4K @ 60Hz incase you decide to upgrade your external display to a 4K model at a later date: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Plugable-D...tTM-3840x2160/dp/B01EXKDRAC?tag=macworld09-21

Hope this helps you Feek :)

Edit: Just found this post on the Apple Support forum - https://discussions.apple.com/message/31970505#31970505 looks like a cable rather than an adapter is best to avoid issues.
