Over there...
Hi all,

any news on how well this board performs with conroe? Overclockability?

For those that dont know it supports DDR1/DDR2 and both AGP/PCI-e.

Seriously considering it for a conroe build, only concerns are:

*Based on VIA PT800(?) chipset - any good?
*PCI-e is only 4x - will this hamper GFX performance when i switch to PCI-e?

I am thinking about going this way so I can keep my 6800GT AGP card until the new cards are released. I don't want to buy an expensive card now when a new one is coming out in 2 - 3 months time...

Its only £36... so I can either get this now or get a new mother
board with PCi express and buy £35 express card...

I will buy a new motherboard when I get a proper express card...

Good thinking. You could even sell your old motherboard for a bit of dosh as well.

From these reviews it will only let you overclock up to 300 fsb.

thats the real issue for me - and possibly the reason why i wouldnt bother :/

but i;d rather not have to buy new GFX/RAM and expensive board just yet tbh... :/

gonna get one of these myself, i realise they clock really poorly but im not too bothered for now, what they do allow u to do is upgrade your system slowly piece by piece over time and by the end of that time (xmas'ish) some decent conroe boards should be out and for reasonable money, then u can get down to some serious clocking :)

pretty sure the 4x pci-e would only hamper you at high resolutions i.e 1600x1200 and up and i think theres gonna be a mini review of this board on anandtech by the end of the week.

Ok... I have ordered a E6600 :D , which might arrive this weekend or more likely on Monday.

The motherboard should arrive tomorrow.

I don't know if I should get the ram yet as the board only supports up to 667mhz of DDR2 and I want to get 800mhz DDR2 which I guess will be the best combination for this cpu. I know that I can still run it on the motherboard at a slower speed. Or I use my 400Mhz DDR. But then again the ram price might not drop. Arghhhh...

I guess you want me to report back when I put it together? :)

This is the board I am going to be buying. I have a retail e6600 en-route to me at the mo. I am going to be using it with DDR and a 6800nu though :)

Anybody that has this board care to comment on its performance?

I am now using this board with the E6600, DDR memory and my 6800GT AGP... and its all working fine.... :)

I have not had time to experiment yet.

I'm currently using an E6300, 1gb twinmos pc3200 (512 x 2) and an x800pro -> xt. And its all working fine... sort of.

I spent about 3-4 hours yesterday trying to get any graphics driver to install. And I mean any. Catalyst drivers would either refuse to install, or once installed would freeze before windows came up. On restoring to last working config, the graphics drivers were always rolled back.

The latest bios and drivers seem to have done the trick, as did messing around brute uninstalling stuff in safe mode.

Oblivion is chugging along nicely with AA, 1680x1080 res, I'm rather pleased.

I should be getting 2gb DDR2 ram soon, probably the G.Skill NR PC6400 2gb kit, knowing my luck, it won't work. But we'll see.

Should we create a 775Dual-VSTA thread for people like us?
