Don't do what my mum did...
After a night out she got home and was slightly (very) drunk and had forgot she already taken of of them out but couldn't manage the second one and asking my dad to help but forgetting to tell him she had already taken one out... so cue my dad getting one out easily enough and then spending a good minute or too poking about at my mum's eye trying to get the other out :p

I've been a CL wearer for over 10 years. Nowadays I use day CLs they are that much more easy to deal with no cleaning etc.

Once you get over the idea of sticking a finger in your eye every day it becomes a natural thing to do, just like wiping your bum.

I use the continus wear ones much better, so nice not having to bother putting them in every morning :p

When I first started on lense they said to me

1st day - out after 2 hours
2nd day - 3 hours
3rd - 4 hours
4th - 5 hours
5th - 6 hours
6th - 7 hours
7th - 8 hours

Afterwards just where them during the day and go from there. Don't worry you'll get the technique of getting them in easy enough :)

After that

As mentioned you can increase the wear by the day. My eyes never agreed with any contacts I tried though, apparently I my eyes lack some lipids causing my eyes to dry up very quickly with lenses in and consequently make them drop out so I'm doomed with glasses, bah!

I tried them. Too thick, too small (I have big eyes!) and so uncomfortable.

I use dailies now. Very rare I get irritated eyes. No need to clean them, store them, nowt. More expensive, but much more comfortable.

Ive used monthly ones for well over 4 years now and never had a single problem untill the other day.

Got a bit of sand or stone in my eye playing 5-aside football and cut my eyelid a bit its swelled a little and the contact lens rubs! but this is not a problem with the contact lens... just the fact that the eye swelled up :D (True Story! :P)

You should be able to feel when they're getting dry as they'll start to become more obvious on your eye. I don't normally notice my contacts until the end of the day, when they start to get uncomfortable and feel like they need moved it's time to take them out.

It takes time to figure out the best way for you to put them in but it does get much easier. Don't try to do it with one hand or without a mirror until you know exactly how to put them in comfortably!

Let's hope you wash your hands in between. :D

I've always been interested in contact lenses, the whole eye prodding thing is something I'd be utterly unhappy doing though.

can i take them out and wash them with solution when they start to become dry?

To put them in, I ...ok e.g. right eye.. look up and left so the sensitive part of your eye is out of the way then pop the lens on the end of your finger and stick it onto the white part of your eye.. then blink v slowly. That tends to work for me.

Also, I have been wearing monthlies but got a few dailys when I had an eye infection.. I think I am going to change as they are so much easier..no cleaning..just pop them in and chuck them away at the end of the day..much more freedom.

:)

I wouldn't do it at first because your eyes are still getting used to them and you're only supposed to wear them a few hours at a time. I do it quite regularly though and carry a case with solution in it for that reason. You can also buy drops that are ok to use with contact, although I prefer to just take mine out and rub them in solution because it removes any dirt that could be trapped under the lenses.

You lot don't know your born. You should have tried the hard gas permiable lenses I had to wear 20 years ago. It took at least 6 months to stop crying when wearing them, and then if you happend to get any spec of dust in them while wearing them you couldn't see, bent over in agony stabbing your eyes with your fingers trying to get the things out. Awful things.

I was wearing daily lenses for 3 years or so until i went onto monthlies earlier this year. Montly Lenses are a bit more hastle because you have to look after them a bit more instead of just throwing them away, but they are a lot more comfortable.

It took me about 3 hours to put my first set in (they must have hated me in the optitions xD) but you soon get used to it. I dont even use a mirror to put mine in now :)

Ive worn them for ages now. Daily disposables. I tried the monthly ones you leave in, my eyes hated them.

Once your used to proding your eye it's easy, never really had any problems. They do tend to fall out when I get thrown hard in Judo though!
