Contract finished, what now?

My contract is up today as far as I'm aware, what happens now? Will it just continue on a month-by-month basis?

In previous years i've phoned up, cancelled, and then opened another contract so I could have a new phone (I only pay 25 a month so I dont get a free upgrade). Not too fussed about a new phone yet though as nothing grabs me, so will my contract just continue and I can cancel it whenever, or will I automatically be entered into another 12 month contract?
 
Well, just out of interest I walked into the orange shop today and said I'm due an upgrade what could they offer me.

The guy put my number into the system and after umming and arring he came out and said i'm on the lowest band so I cant really have a free upgrade.

But then he went on to say that todays my lucky day, and if I want I could have a Samsung U600 for free and not change anything with my tariff :eek:

MINT! I don't know what to do now though with it. I'm happy with my 6233, its so easy to use with all the shortcuts and everything and the keypad is great. Not sure whether to keep the U600 and sell the 6233 or vice versa :confused:
