I need to keep my phone number, BUT i am not using my phone enough to warrant a contract. So i'd like to cancel the contract and go PAYG :) I'd like to stay with Orange, but will this cause problems with keeping my number?

No, I moved my number from contract to pay as you go without any problems, Phone orange they will give you PAC code.

When I moved from O2 contract to O2 pay as you go I had to phone 2 seperate numbers ( I think their different entities)

Hope that helps.

If you're moving from orange contract to Orange PAYG there's no need for a PAC code (in fact requesting one is entirely the wrong way to go about it).

Call Orange and just say you want to end your contract and take the number to PAYG, they'll send you a PAYG sim within 30 days that is then registered with your contract number when you call them to register it, automatically terminating the contract.

That sounds shockingly simple for a phone company, are you sure that's right? :D

I'll phone them later and find out what they have to say.

Thanks

you can if it originally used to be payg....but if you got the phone direct off them they can transfer it to a same brand payg sim and then you port to another provider
