Cooking with Jonny69: Real pasta sauce ***WORLD EXCLUSIVE*** with pics

Ok I promise it'll be a bit more challenging next time :D

But it will still be damn tasty and not cost much ;)

I'm thinking chicken and sweetcorn soup like you get in the Chinese takeaway? You need a chicken carcass for that so ideal for a Monday/Tuesday after the Sunday roast...

Or what about a hearty sausage and bean casserole?

I'm going to write something about picking kitchen knives and how to keep them sharp as well.

To make a chili I add kidney beans, chili powder, some tobacco sauce and some other spicy bits I have around the kitchen (chillies etc)

Is that the new Benson and Hedges brand? :D

You may do this already, but good for the n00bs.

Must haves:-

Cinnamon sticks
Cumin powder
Ground coriander seeds
Paprika
Oregano
Worcestershire Sauce
A good squeeze of tomato sauce
Cayenne pepper
...and finely chopped chillis!

this is exactly how i make my tom sauce j69! except.... add in some chopped parsley to it!!! I command you... then you have the basic sauce to add chilli, wine, whatever to :)

And it really is tasty.... tinned chopped tomatoes are perfect - I've seen Gino de Campo make this on Saturday Kitchen (or something) and he makes it EXACTLY the same way with CHEAP TINNED TOMATOES...

So to the tomato snobs .... you are wrong I'm afraid! :)

There's definitely nothing wrong with tinned chopped tomatoes - they're just real tomatoes in a tin! Anyone who claims they're a student and doesn't use Value tinned tomatoes is definitely a snob :p

Can't believe you just made a massive thread explaining how to put two tins of tomatoes in a pan with some finely chopped garlic, then add salt and pepper.

I bought a set, decent enough...well they are sharp and came with a block. £30 or something in Asda...but the way to keep them sharp for me is to keep them away from my flatmates, who despite me telling them repeatidly, seem to think that leaving them with water all over them on the draining board is fine. A couple now have some minor rust marks :( But now they are hidden, so it's ok, I wash and dry them straight away.

As for the sauce, nice one, simple, but effective...shame my flatmate's don't understand this sorta thing. One thinks that 'cause I make sauces etc. from scratch that I'm a brilliant cook...I'm not, I just have an imagination and will try things.

And I want to make a cannon...do a thread on OcUK or on your website. :p

Jonny have you considered using Whole Tomato Tin instead?
It has plenty more juice then chopped tomato. You can thicken it using little bit of tomato paste. The taste is far better then most chopped tomato.
