My mum has had her '99 BMW 318i SE for just over a month now and so far it's been great. More recently a light has come on the dash and on checking it in the manual it suggests that the coolant level is low and needs topped up. Having looked in the reservoir, the coolant is full. She brought it to the dealer who had a quick look and said to let it run for another couple of weeks to see if it stays on.

There doesn't appear to be any leaks and the coolant level remains the same. The engine temperature is normal, sits exactly half way up as usual and the car drives fine. My suspiscion was a faulty sensor. Is this the likely cause?
She's leaving it into the dealer next week but I don't want her driving it if it's something more serious.

Ideas? Thanks :)

i would go with your guess - sounds like a sensor or computer problem. As long as you keep an eye on the temp gage, im sure you/she will be fine
