Cordless power tools

Op. How often will you be using the tools? Everyday? If so go for makita,Bosch or desalt

If not something much cheaper like ryobi will be fine

I agree with the posters above.

For every day use, go for a quality professional tool. It doesn't really matter what the brand is. Bosch, Makita and DeWalt all have DIY products as well as professional ranges. Ryobi don't really have a professional range, but there is a massive choice of tools in their ONE range.

I used to use a Ryobi 18V drill myself at work, for well over a year. While it was not even in the same league as my DeWalt 18V so far as power or build quality, it still did the job.

My brother is a joiner and has worked on building sites for years. He would agree with you completely! :)

My neighbour is also a joiner and all his tools are either DeWalt (most of them) and Makita. Another joiner/cabinet fitter I know well buys nothing but DeWalt and says the quality of Makita, which he used to use, has gone downhill in recent years. Personally I don't see much point shelling out on something of that quality if I'm only going to be using it once in a blue moon. The only Makita product I have is an 18V drill with two 3.0Ah Li-Ion batteries and the rest of my tools are a mixture of cheaper brands such as Ryobi, Black&Decker and Bosch. If you know someone who's going to the US, Makita tools are a fair bit cheaper there but you'll need a UK charger or transformer for the batteries.

Can fully recommend Makita cordless stuff

I've got a bhp451 drill, reciprocating saw (much fun :D) , work lamp & I have their 2nd top impact driver on order

Ryobi are placed above Bosch iirc?!

In pecking order my preference would be makita, dewalt then Bosch

Ryobi have never really promoted themselves as a professional brand but they make very good tools for the price.

Should also be noted that Bosch offer a 3 year warranty on their professional range (batterys and chucks not included.)

Dewalt make the best cordless jigsaw by a mile. Had mine for about 5-6 years now and its still going strong. Only had to replace the brushes, and grease it up a couple of times.

Also can attest to Dewalts DCD925 drill/driver being very tough. I dropped it out of a bedroom window onto concrete a few weeks back and its just got a few scratches on it. I've had cheaper drills fall off a kitchen worktop and the gearbox snaps in half.

You have to pay for quality though, and all brands also do DIY kit for less money. These tools will be poor and if you're going for budget priced Dewalt etc then you may as well consider cheaper brands like Ryobi.
