Corsair hx1000w sufficient for 295x2?

Just incase accidentally buy one today would the psu be sufficient? At the time it was a legendary psu im sure but its quite old now. Are the rails good enough etc?

you need :
-28 A of current to each of the 8-pin auxiliary power connectors on your graphics card
-50 A of combined current to the pair of 8-pin auxiliary power connectors

check specifications of your psu

it's all about the quality of the PSU, tom's hardware could run crossfire R9 295X2 on a 1000watt PSU, with no probleme but a good quality one.

Thanks gibbo. While the wattage is there, I was concerned as its like a 6 year old psu that the rails might not meet todays standards.

Ah is it multi-rail?

If so you need a PSU with a single rail design, multi-rail won't power such cards with high current draw.
 
if this is his psu then single rail is 40A, and combined 80A which ok is according to the specification of AMD

but double check if the specification sated on the site is accurate sometimes they make mistakes...i ordered couple things like led backlit keyboard that in reality isn't, of laser mouse that turned out to be optical :D

Not really so sure, I just know with the high-end VGA single rail PSU's are ideal.

Yeah i'm not entirely sure myself, if your running a 500 Watt GPU off one Rail you would need at least 54 Amps on that rail to give you 650 Watts for the GPU and the rest of the system.
So a PSU with 2 Rails would need 108 Amps combined (1300 Watts) which is pretty unrealistic.
Is this why they cite "single rail with X amount of Amps" ?

I would have thought that if you have a PSU with 2 rails @ 31 Amps each (750 Watts Combined) then one of each rail is enough (Rail 1: 150~ Watts = 12 Amps + PCIe 75 Watts = 6 Amps = 18 Amps = 220 Watts + Rail 2 = 12 Amps 150 Watts)

You would just have to know which Rails are separate and to split them, if you don't you could overload the Rail.

Thats how i figure it, 8 Pack would be the man to ask.
 
Is a 1000 w superflower fine or the 1300 w for same price?

if you are going to buy a psu look for the be quiet! Power Zone 1000W PSU, it ran 2 x R9 295X2 with not probleme.
