weird question i know but i've done work in houses where people smoked for as few years and there thick yellow build-up on glass and all sorts of stuff wonder if this could impact a pc at any point in it's life.

sorry just a random moment

My mate smokes in his room, where his PC is. When I was cleaning his old PC to pass it on to someone else, I noticed that the build up of dust (there was a lot) was tinged yellow and did indeed smell of smoke.

Other than that there didn't appear to have been any adverse effects. Of course if you're running a fairly hot box and it clogs with dust it may well get hotter...

yeah thought as much i know nicotine and tar are very sticky think i'll stop chaining around the pc lol

I smoke beside my pc all the time, yes i have to vacum a wee bit more, but the main thing is it kinda leaves my monitor a wee bit dirtier, Gotta try and stop as im worried about ruining the screen, it cost almost £450.00 and i dont fancy shelling out for a replacement due to a ruined screen, but im gonna try and stop smoking as it costs to much.

It's not just the PC case that gets clogged up with greesy gunk and dust, it's also going to be that fancy graphics card that you have. I recon you would have to clean your screen daily if you were to smoke beside it. As with humans I recon it reduces the life expectancy of the components inside as well due to the heat and sticky dust build up.

Also any would be buyer in the future could potentially be turned away just by the smell.

Good reasons! I dig it ...

I bought a £1500 PC years ago (a 486DX2) as my 'reward' for giving up smoking ... I got that PC for free :D almost ... then I started again but that's another story!

My father-in-law is a heavy smoker, and everytime I've had to fix his PC for him, I've been disgusted by the state inside his case!!

It's always full of a thick yellow dust, and it smells like an ashtray..

Strange thing with mine davy, (even as much as i smoke) my case is very dust free, i keep it on a wooden floor and ive actually removed the dust filters from my kama bay and the bottom intake fan on my akasa eclipse 62 to increase airflow, i do clean it every few weeks with compressed air, sometimes my TRUE can get a bit grubby but i take it out and wash it with the shower head on power setting, dry it with a hair dryer and whack it back in.

Is this a cry for help?

Just stop. It's better for you, everyone around you, your pets and your PC. Plus you'll be able to run faster for longer in BF2142. It's a proven fact.:D

You can blatently tell when someone smokes around their computer, the components stink and in worse case scenarios look yellow. Saying that having pets and long hair also clog components lol

I just clean the resulting brown fuzz out of the fans at least once a month and give all the other bits a brushing off. My last rig has run fine for almost 7 years doing this.

It's disgusting when buying 2nd hand components and you open up the package and it reeks like an ashtray.

But seriously, I would be concerned for your own health first over your computer's.
