I popped down the road this morning and took a few shots. These are the first ones with my new 400D I've been brave enough to post here, so go easy, but comments and criticisms are welcome. :)

These are taken with the kit lense, they should still all have their exif data intact.

Taken almost straight into the sun, I'm really happy with how it came out myself. The lense flare is annoying, but I'm not sure how it could have been avoided.

I like this one simply because of how blue the water looks, the horizon looks curved though, is that an effect of the lense at that short focal length?

This one I was concious of the rule of thirds, however when I tried to keep the various components on the horizontal lines it didn't look right, so it's centered verticly more.

Comments / criticisms? :)

number one for me for the simple fact the channel of water through the centre of the image draws your eye into the picture.

Number 1 is the best although it feels slightly wonky.

Number 3 would be good but it seems a little over exposed.

Should be happy with them though.

^^ Agree with that.

I think the pictures would have benefitted from having a circular polariser.

Seconded. I know i harp on about it, but it really is amazing the difference you get with a CP.

I think all three are good for some of your first shots. 1 and 3 are probably the strongest, but 2 and 3 are very over exposed. Trying fiddling with the levels a bit, and maybe selecting the rocks (plus a feathering) and using the Remove Highlights tool to darken them and bring out the detail -- without making the water too black.

The subject in 3 looks interesting, perhaps you can pop down there and have a good go at it. :)

I like number 1 & 3.

The stip of water in the first one does draw the eye, I think that works quite well.

Number 2 is to empty for me im afraid, there is just nothing for me to look at, there is nothing wrong with the photo (although the rocks on the right might look a tad over exposed) its just that there is nothing exciting going on.

The last one has excellent potential, it looks like a great subject to photograph, although it looks like the light was a touch too bright, as suggested a circular polariser might improve that.

Nice one though, thanks for posting.
