COVID-19 (Coronavirus) discussion

Just logged on to my NHS account and we have 266 Covid patients in our hospital but none in ICU.

We've had multiple cases this week of patients admitted for Respiratory symptoms that have tested positive for SARS-CoV-2, Influenza A and RSV. We've seen an explosion of Flu over the last 2 weeks and if we're now seeing people with dual or multiple respiratory infections it's very worrying. We've also seen our first possible XD/XF recombinant strain this week, just waiting on secondary conformations.

Has anyone had 2 jabs but not the 3rd?
I'm going to France in June so i guess i'll have to get the 3rd one. Was hoping they would drop the requirement for the booster but doesn't look like they will.

My 84 year old mum just got a positive. She is 3 x times vaccinated, but still a little worrying at her age, though she is rock to be fair.

Indeed, Johnson and the Tories (along with other idiotic world leaders) have made it impossible to escape the pandemic. Now they've squandered all the efforts and sacrifices we have made over the last two years. It's a disgrace.

Are deaths reaching records ? The efforts we made in lockdowns was to delay the spread so we could get vaccine programs in place, it was never meant to stop it, it's impossible to stop

Cases will be under 1k by the end of next week, even though we’re still at least 250k a day in true figures

More like 7-800k a day, with current thinking that natural immunity from omicron lasts only a few months. So basically, it's not going away. This looks like the start of a very long, very large peak that involves multiple infections for everyone.

Stopping free testing now is utterly ridiculous. At the very least they should be subsidised, price capped and made available everywhere like petrol stations and supermarkets. That would save the stupid amounts of money they've spent distributing them piecemeal to pharmacies and via recorded delivery (I mean WHY!!!??)

deaths arent the issue anymore, long covid and the ongoing lasting effects on people and the nhs service going forward is the problem

People may surive it now but its proven to cause damage to the heart, lungs and now the brain how is the nhs going to cope with problems in the future when we just let it run riot

Our kids are now having more time off school isolating because schools wont allow them in class so they are missing out on even more education, what damage is that going to cause in the future?

guess that's all ok though because deaths are lower with vaccine right

Sky just said there's 300 in ITU compared to 4,000 at the previous peak, I get there may be 2 week lag but it's a stark difference at over 90%

again stop focusing on ICU fact is hospitals are filling up it doesnt matter if thats a normal ward or ICU it still blocks up the system

Me, I had the original 2 but havent had the booster. I'm travelling to Canada this Christmas (as I do every year) and there's no requirement for Canada to have the booster. Canada > France :D

Just look at South Korea for how zero covid works

It's the kids fault infections are so high

Prevalence remains highest among children between age two and school year 6, with one in 11 likely to have had COVID-19 last week.

So it wouldn't make any difference, they'd still be missing time off school if we had stricter restrictions

Yeah, there's no reason to suggest this is a peak. Nothing is being done to reduce cases so although we've only got 365 (at the last count) in ICU, so about 10% of the 2021 Jan peak, that was the very height of it and was back down to about 2000 8 weeks later. It looks like what we've got coming is 500 or so in ICU and about 2k+ deaths per week ad infinitum with people getting re-infected over and over again.

That's before we begin to talk about the strain on the NHS caused by what looks like will be 30k+ covid+ patients, again, ad infinitum.

And sick days.

This is not "living" with covid.

Great, going to be stuck in a covid loop.

This is a bit of a nightmare scenario. It's called original antigenic sin, and means our first exposure has 'trapped' our immune response. Despite encountering wildly different spikes, it appears that the body is favouring the original spike it first encountered over the newer one.

This is also why the Omicron jabs are so far proving ineffective.

Had a sore throat start on Wednesday....which has spread to sinuses and chest. Assumed it was just my first cold in years and I'm just being a pussy, but **** me it's really stepped up a gear this afternoon....my throat is throbbing and feels like acid has been down it, head is pounding.

Still negative on the LFT, if it's not covid it's the last 3 years colds wrapped up in one extra special package....

why on earth would they drop the booster requirement when it has been proven to be highly effective?
